Once again, I know perfectly well what lobbying is on *this* planet.
As for the concepts involved on your home planet, I guess I'd have
to borrow a tinfoil hood to figure that out.

actually, I was going to ask you, before Dean beat me to it, what a
"Republican lobbyist" was. Sure, some lobbyists and some causes get more
play working the GOP side of the aisle, but advocates for any position do so
with little regard for party if the votes they need are there. That said,
one can clearly see, when Republicans are in power, former GOP
office-holders make prime employees at lobbying firms, the opposite would
probably prove true at present, with the Democrats calling most of the
shots.

The two names most often mentioned are Donna Shalala and Kathleen
Sebelius. He could pick both making one HHS Secy and the other
the White House Health Care adviser.

a very possible scenario.

And then Tom Littleton answered his own question:

Mostly I was thinking about the environmental lobby (Dem) as opposed
to the extraction lobby (Rep).

But I cannot possibly know what lobbying really is unless rdean teaches
me the secret handshake and lets me borrow his tinfoil hood. It's all
hush hush and top secret, ya know, only the "connected" can really know
what's going on in American politics.

but, Ken, he is right. Your own example is such oversimplified tripe as to
be utter nonsense. If you think the Enviromental Lobbyists are ALL Dems, you
would be wrong. Likewise, if you think mineral extraction lobbyists avoid
contacting Dems or hiring Dems, you are even more wrong. Easy enough to talk
about what RDean may or may not know about politics, or what I may or may
not know about politics, but your own writings clearly show that you really
don't know politics at all. Might be best to go back and learn something
about the whole matter, before you start mocking others.

No, he's not. Why do you insist on putting words like ALL in my
mouth ? Of course my example is oversimplified, I tailored it to
the audience.

because you are the one making oversimplified generalizations.

uh-huh. Except your audience knows what they are talking about, to some
extent, while you have yet to demonstrate the same.......

Apparently my audience has been using Usenet for years but has failed
to recognize the usual Usenet conventions. For example:

"The problem as I see it is Republican
lobbyists. We ought to allow lobbying only for liberals and not
fat cat Republicans. That'll fix it. ;-)"

Now you see an audience who knew what they were talking about would
immediately recognize the emoticon ;-) and realize that sarcasm was
intended in that quote. You and rdean, on the other hand, want to
pick nits, belittle and niggle over what was clearly intended as
sarcasm. A very poor audience indeed for someone like myself. But
you guys keep working on it, I trust you'll figure out this whole
Usenet thing before it disappears. Better hurry up though.

well, that was how I read your original reply, given the emoticon. The
responses later sort of confused the issue....
Anyhow, in an attempt to return to the original subject,
I did have considerable misgivings about Daschle, as the idea of yet another
guy, cozied up with one side or the other of the Healthcare issue is the
last way to get any progress on what is a serious issue for the nation. Just
my two cents, and I am strongly in favor of extreme reform of our healthcare
system, in fact, leaning heavily toward a single payer national system.
