Madison Outfitters went belly up this December. As did Lunde's fly shop in Mt. Horeb. That's too bad about Madison Outfitters, I've only been in there a few times but they were always good folks and it's nice to have a fly shop nearby for last-minute things you may have forgot. I last visited Lunde's about 15 years ago and vowed never to return. That guy was a jerk, I'm amazed he stayed in business as long as he did. snip But actually a person stands a pretty good chance of catching fish that time of year. Scuds and Pink Squirrels down deep work well as do BWOs and Little Black stoneflies on top, if the fish are in the mood.. You going to join the party George ? And remember, if there's snow *don't wear felts*!!! My trick of the day, and I've posted it here before, is to pull on a pair of those old-fahioned rubber overshoes over your wading boots until you get to the water. -- Ken Fortenberry |

Ken, I'm clueless. Clue me...who are the "three" going? You, Wayne and Wolf I assume. Or someone else. And Christian Figenschou makes it a foursome and maybe George and whoever else in roffdom who wants to trudge around in the snow and wave a fly rod around for awhile. Cyli ? I won't need my arm twisted to show up. If the weather sucks I'll just watch :-) Are you talking about March 6 & 7? Let me know. The dates are correct, we're still caucusing on the venue. Stay tuned to roff, we'll figure it out eventually. -- Ken Fortenberry |

My trick of the day (developed after a very interesting, but embarrassing, story which need not see the light of day here) is to not go fishing until the snow is completely and thoroughly melted. I like aguastealth in general, and it is a lot better in snow/ice, but my impression is that it is not as good on thin layers of mud (such as on rocks in the water or on slopes) as felt. You might want to look into the studded aquastelth boots (from Simms and perhaps others) to cover those sorts of conditions as well as snow/ice on the banks. JR |

For MOST of the Michigan and Wisconsin waters I have fished, the aquastealth is a decent choice for winter fishing as they don't have the rocks and other slippery stuff associated with most trout streams I'm used to. These streams are usually Spring Creeks with lots of mud. Wayne |
