If you had but one fly to take on a trip...

And you had no idea what you would be fishing in fresh water for, which fly would you take? ------------ Girdle Bug for me -- I have caught one steelhead, numerous trout, whitefish, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass (okay is was only 1/2 pound, at most), crappie, bluegill, and a few perch. Chris By the way, has anybody else every heard of the single fly competition? Not a single fly. But I remember reading something about what kind of flys would you put in a survial kit. It may have been here ( or a discussion on a similar topic). As I remember it was you get a half dozen flys that would catch any kind of fish anywhere in the world. The ideal was that wherever your scramjet was shot down you would have a chance to catch something. |

First off, who would go on a fishing trip and have no idea what they'd be fishing for ? And second, why would you take only one fly ? Geezus, this post would be too dumb even in the middle of North American winter when we all have cabin fever and *WELCOME* dumb posts. Me, I'd take a $20 bill fly, that way once I got there I could buy the right flies. asswipe |

Adding the, no idea what species you are fishing for or the type of water, is an idea for my area because we have so many species within a single day's trip. It certainly would add a bit or challenge to an already established tradition, wouldn't it?. http://www.jacksonholenet.com/events...ly_contest.php Chris asswipe |

Padishar Creel Dumb question or not, I would pick a size 10 black wooley bugger and/or a size 14 yellow humpy and a beadhead prince nymph (or a gold ribbed hares ear in place of the prince). See, can't pick just one fly! \wooly bugger, hell ya. |

Chris By the way, has anybody else every heard of the single fly competition? OK - I will bend the rules a bit, let's try one fly (a muddler minnow) in various sizes - is that legal for a single fly competition? I have caught all kinds of things on very small (like #12 + 14 - deadly on trout bent on dries - gunk it up good)) to very large (2/0) muddlers, well the 2/0 looks less like a muddler than a mass of hair thing, but the snook loved it! Bill good choice. |
