Hell, you're standing dead-center.

I'm gonna toss two cents into this and call it enough.
If you want to say that arguing on Usenet is retarded
that's one thing, but when you illustrate your argument
with the picture of a retarded human being in an attempt
to be "funny" you have crossed a line.

We return you to your regularly scheduled etymology
lesson.

If you recall... I apologized for that, a long time ago...
Hell, I can be insensitive, and I agree, I offended some people that have a
different life experience then I do.
maybe everyone can now show me just what sterling examples of the human race
they are, and cut me some slack.

Other than that, maybe I just wasted my time with a bunch of hypocritical
blowhards with nothing better to do with their time than bash strangers from
the safe distance of Usenet.

Well, I think maybe Kevin's use of "unfortunate choice of word"

The least you could do is refer to the word I used. ;-)

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=idiotic

NOW see how much digging it takes.

1.. Showing foolishness or stupidity.
2.. Exhibiting idiocy.
Yes, much like this thread and the one that started it...

As if idiotic wasn't an adjective from the noun Idiot.... Great
argument.

You're right, and it should have never gotten to this point. That you used a
poorly chosen example that I (and obviously others) found in poor taste and
that I used a poorly chosen word in rebuttle, doesn't change my original
point. Score one for Kevin. ;-)

Sure...how much rope would you like?

Are you saying you are an idiot who wanted to do something stupid with a
bunch of morons? Fair enough...so, are you a Republican or a Democrat?

And just to save time,

Er ... I don't know how to put this gently, but Richard doesn't even
make sense to *himself* most of the time. :-)

Politically Correct? How 'bout some consideration for those of us that
are apolitical? Didn't think about that before you flaunted your
electoral college in our faces, did'ja?
And then again, you compound it with the seasonal crap knowing full
well that there are millions of fly fishermen that have hobby-enhanced
season affective disorder (He SAD).
Finally, what with this "RICHARD" crap. Sounds very monarchial to me.
You want the brits to install a king here in the land of the free
doncha? Why do you hate America so much.
Some people are just trying to start a controversy every time they get
in front of a keyboard.

..... according to him, in ancient greece, a
person who kept to himself and out of public life was referred to as an
"idiotes",

That's correct, Jeff. Pericles said, "If a man says he takes no
interest in politics, we do not say he minds his own business; we say
he has no business here at all!"

In a loosely similar way, our word "villain" derives from the Latin
word for farmer, or "hick."

Especially when it's such a cute pic of a kid who's worked hard and is
so happy with winning that his joy shines right through everything.

The kid is justly proud of what he's done. Anyone who'd not applaud
the child and the win is, well, the best definition I can think of is
'not nice.' and I'd bet has less to be proud of in his / her life
than that kid has.
