Bill....I fish as far south in the delta as you can go, not alot of
current, shallow water, and alot of cover, weed beds, blow downs, bamboo
and tulie thickets in the water and alot of rip-rap along the levee
banks. Grant Line Canel, Fabian/Bell Canel, Paradise Cut and Old River
is my water of choice. Good luck on those Steelhead, years ago I used to
fish the American River for Salmon, Steelhead and American Shad, but
approaching 70 years old at the speed of light so stay closer to home..

Personally, I enjoy seeing you guys go off once in a while. But please, if

sites out there. I was on a guitar site once where death threats were
issued over who was the "best" guitar player. Hell, everybody knows its
Mark Knopfler anyway, right? Rec.food.wine has had some legendary fights
over topics including calling a wine glass a "glass or is it stemware?",
whether it was proper to season food at the table thus insulting the chef,
and other matters of weighty import. I have had conversations which
resulted in obscure threats from an alter-ego named Ming who was supposed to
put the fear of God into me on a VietVet site. This group by comparison is
very polite and considerate.

Ronnie = It was 13 degrees when I got up .Its almost 9 AM and a scorching
19degrees with some wind.As much as I enjoy fishing I just can't bring
myself to go out into this.At 45-50 degrees, its is still hard for me to do
..As a boy I lived in Georgia and Florida for several years and remember the
winters as cold mornings and pleasant days but back then I could care less
about fishing and more about ball or girls. Some times I wish I still lived
in Georgia

Makes sense Bob. Next time you're doing that try nose-hooking a bait with a
size 2 or 4 octopus - you'll be amazed how easy it comes through the grass.
The best thing is that if it does get stuck, a sharp twitch of the rod tip
not only generally frees it, but often triggers a reaction bite as well.
Much like the "ticking the grass, ripping it out" crankbait theory.

I appreciate that Rodney, I really do. I can see your hook being a
valuable asset to an entry-level dropshotter that might have a hard time
tying a proper polamar knot. But that's where it ends for me. A
dropshot rig in its purest (& most effective) form is a tiny, no-frills
hook & a finesse-type bait. Sure, some people "bubba-up" their dropdhot
rigs with heavy line, sinkers & bigger hooks & baits, but even these rigs
only need use a standard shaped hook. I'm partial to the "octopus" style
myself.

Actually prefer a j-hook style worm hook and I use a Trilene knot. Its a
little awkward to tie with that long tag end, but when I flip tag around
and drop it thrugh the eye its real easy to make that hook stick out. I
like to t-rig my dropshot worms since I am usually d-shotting in grass
beds rather than over rocky bottoms.

Hey Warren.....I do like current also as it positions the bass and makes
them active, but on the outer edges of the system it is not so strong as
the middle areas. I have an 87 pound t/m and with some of the heavier
current flow it can be a pain that I do not like to deal with. I like to
fish thin water and catch bass all year long in water from 6" to 5' with
some nice bags and some quality.
