Took a break this afternoon after I ate my box lunch prepared by the
wonderful new cook, Donna, at Lakewood. I'm up here with friends from
Acton. Tom took a couple of nice salmon this a.m. He's fairly new to
flyfishing, but he did well. I saw a friend land a 24 inch brook
trout yesterday afternoon in Second Current. An absolute beauty - the
fish, not Bruce the friend. I've had to settle for a few good size
brookies and three salmon over 21 inches. All on ........shhhhh
soft hackly pheasant tails. The water temp is still cold at 51. It
was 47 last Tuesday, so it is warming up quickly. If you hurry, you
can get here before the Hendrickson hatch comes off at 53 degrees.
All hell will break loose when that happens.

So, hop on a plane, I'll pick you up in Portland, and show you some
brookie and landlocked salmon fishing like you've never experienced.
Yeah, nothing makes me sick, not even the most evil person I've ever
met. And as much as I dislike you, Wolfgang, I would not celebrate
your death.

story of a graham county fisherman...perhaps one of the best in that
area of the state...who, while transporting him and some others on a

said to them, quietly but in that firm nc mountain-accented voice:

road and continued on without another word on the issue...

experience, i've discovered a decency, intellect, and kind spirit that

recent trip reports concerning this month's goings on in the southern
Appalachians were, by any standard, at least as good and, in my estimation,

democratic forum. The majority produce.....and get.....what they want.
When you've got some free time, take a look at thread titles......and who
starts them. Look at how threads morph, when, how, why, and who's
responsible. If all this seems a bit vague and confusing, consider
this......

In just over two years I've put forth in this newsgroup 19 offerings in a
series titled "Forgotten Treasures." 34 threads in all, counting various
parts. In aggregate, they have generated a grand total of 161 posts, not
counting the original post in each thread. This is considerably less than
we find in any one of scores of threads in any given year. Why? Because
it's not what the majority want.......it's not what interests them.

What interests them......what they WANT......is useless verbal ping pong.
So be it.

Of course, if the majority ever wants the idiots, morons, cretins,

thought that your conclusion regarding the Treasures may be
overstated.

Over the years many folks have remarked that TRs are much read
and greatly appreciated, but don't generate many posts. Just a
fact of life. Myself, when folks post long, especially
multipart, texts, rather than read them on-line, I cut and paste
them into a form I can print recto-verso in a denser format. I
then read them in hard copy when I can get around to them, which
is often when I'm away from a computer and can't post a comment.
Your "Forgotten Treasures" fall into this category. I have no
idea whether I've ever posted even a single comment about them,
but I'm pretty sure that they're the sort of thing that interests
me.

I've more than once thought there might even be a modest market
out there for a well-edited compilation in book form...... ;)

I recall a certain thread, back a couple of months ago. Someone was looking
for information about where to fish in a particular region, complicated by
disability restrictions. Several people responded. Short thread, though.
Never an acknowledgment (let alone a thank you) from the OP. On the other
hand, find an off topic troll with roughly 120 posts from 23 participants
and guess who shows up to take a shot at one of the repondents to that short
thread from way back.

So be it.

Yeah, that's pretty much a paraphrase of what I said above.......or maybe
it's the other way around. Either way, it's a pleasant thought and a nice
theory, but the only way I can think of to test it yields dubious results.

Myself, when folks post long, especially
multipart, texts, rather than read them on-line, I cut and paste
them into a form I can print recto-verso in a denser format. I
then read them in hard copy when I can get around to them, which
is often when I'm away from a computer and can't post a comment.
Your "Forgotten Treasures" fall into this category. I have no
idea whether I've ever posted even a single comment about them,
but I'm pretty sure that they're the sort of thing that interests
me.

Well, that's good to know, but this IS ROFF. Which is to say that it's a
Usenet newsgroup. Which is to say that it is not primarily a library
reading room, but rather a "discussion" forum. And there is nothing to keep
anyone from "discussing" any public domain material that finds its way here.

Personally, I would strongly advise you (singular and plural) to "discuss"
whatever you choose to.......and leave the rest alone. Really, I would.*

I've more than once thought there might even be a modest market
out there for a well-edited compilation in book form...... ;)

Experience suggests this would lend a new poignancy to the term "modest."
