I suppose it does keep them occupied for a while. :-)

Good grief. This ain't lit-rit-chaw we're committing here, it's
conversation. Anybody who wanted to understand that sentence in
context could have easily done so, but because it was ambiguous
the usual wisenheimers are out in force and getting their yuks.

You're welcome, ;-) and please allow me to rephrase:

In the US there is no permanent cure for the quadrennial parade
of idiots, fools and morons called the Republican Convention but
a healthy dose of herb and a good belly laugh can help alleviate
the nausea it causes for a brief while.

Amazing. Have you ever wondered how life might be different if there
were some correspondence between what you say and what you THINK you
are saying? :)

Wolfgang

Your right, there is a certain disconnect here ,

The interesting thing is that what he THINKS he's saying is just plain
stupid, while what he SAYS makes perfect sense.

must be the Meds :-)

Exactly! :)

Wolfgang
well......partly......there's also what he's medicating FOR.

scarier to me is the level of alienation and divisive discourse we are getting
to view as routine. I heard one commentator note that the US was as divided as
it had been since the Civil War. Chilling to hear this week was an interview on
NPR with Norman Podhoretz, a founding neocon. When asked what discourse he
maintained with liberal friends, he calmly noted that, not only did he have NO
liberal friends anymore, he felt that it was impossible for a true conservative
to maintain friendship with liberals. Is this what we are coming to, and if so,
where does that leave our national security? As noted by a prominent Republican
past, "a house divided against itself cannot stand". Both sides of the divide
might note this issue, as I see neither addressing it......

And that Tom is exactly what I was asking. When you label someone as
evil how can you co-operate with them at any level without feeling you
are aiding evil itself? Is evil a relative or an absolute term?

Geez, you ask tough questions....willya stick to the trip reports, George!!
Seriously, your point is well taken, and the answer, to be consistent would be
that you cannot.

Is evil a relative or an absolute term?

it would seem pretty absolute. And yes, I do worry about the direction Cheney
and his neocon buddies are taking this nation down. I do think they are the
ones, both politically and in the media, who have fueled the divisive
atmosphere(although neither side is blameless). I actually have moments where I
worry how this entire regime will handle it when Kerry wins, if he does win. I
really fear some hokey suspension of law, state of emergency or the like, and
hope I am wrong about the lack of character of these folks.
