ROD BUILDING?

No.
Šand I'm more likely not to start, as I learn more about it.

That's the trouble with learning too much about something before giving it a
try. My first fly rod....which I still own and occasionally fish with....is
one I built myself. It ain't pretty but I've caught thousands of fish with
it. I probably spent something like ten hours (not counting drying time for
glues and varnish) on it.....could have done it in a lot less.....and paid
maybe $20 for components.

The simple truth is that if you are confident in your ability to do some
very simple manual tasks there really isn't all that much to it.

Oh. I wondered how you determined it was "good info".

I agree with Wolfgang. A body can complicate *any* process to the point
nobody would venture a try, but just doing it without a great deal of
investment would give that person the confidence needed to move forward.
That said, I have no desire to buid a rod. . . yet.

I've built two .... both fished very well, but both were very "ain't pretty"
..... I'm NOT handy and did NOT enjoy rod building, but it certainly isn't
rocket science. You do have to be very patient and anally neat if the
looks of the end product are of great importance, any slight imperfection in
the wraps is magnified by the epoxy. Both my rods were on Sage LL blanks
and I spent maybe $50 total ( 15+ years ago ) for the two finished rods,
fished them both for years and years until both got broken, the 4wt in a car
door, the 2wt snagged in brush as I did a creepy crawly approach.

Then I'm sure you don't want to hear Sage retro'd their warranty when they
came out with the lifetimers and would have replaced the blanks

YIKES ....no ****?

oh well, long gone to the landfill

um, actually I think the blanks were minor blems that I got for extra cheap,
probably not covered in retro ( don't dispute this, I feel bad enough
already :-)

You will feel better knowing that I don't know what they would have done, if
anything, with blems.

It's your birthday , forget your historically cheap leanings and fear of all
things nice and come to the darkside. Get the Tom Morgan Favorite from
Winston, you'll thank me in the morning g

Sheesh. I guess I have to work on my approach - that's two people I've
unintentionally ****ed off in two days.

Don't you just hate when that happens ? At least when you
**** me off I know it's intentional. ;-)
