Curling is basically played in bars. Every curling rink in every town in
western Canada has a lounge that overlooks the ice, so you can sit and
drink after the game, during the game, or before the game.

I was sort of hoping you'd jump in. We needed a real Canadian to
sum up the essence of the game. :-)

Speaking of all of this, when we went to Carol's high school reunion
in Crowsnest Pass a couple years ago, it was held where? Naturally, at
the curling rink. :-)

Curling and shuffleboard.....yep pretty much the same game, except one
is played with 40 pound rocks, two people sweeping, 80 feet of ice, and
no rebounds off the sides.....yep, except for that, pretty much the same.

I used curl, but gave up a number of years ago. I figured it was more
efficient just to go straight to the bar. Besides, it used to creep me
out seeing people kneeling on ice with their butts in the air yelling
"Hurry, Hurry Hard!!!"

Oh, I dunno ... I've seen Canadians do weirder things. :-)

I still go to the curling rink every once in while, mostly for the
french fries.

With gravy, no doubt. And maybe some poutine. :-)

Gravy, ketchup and vinegar. I don't much go for poutine. Adding cheese
curds to fries seems a little over the top to me.

I can see why they don't have mixed gender teams as well. Some of those

Ah, so you saw the Japanese team, too.

I'm just going to offer this link with no comment.

I went to high school with some of those guys. Good to see they
haven't changed.

Oh, you were talking about the girls, right? I like the Swedish
skip OK, but one of the Japanese girls (I think she was the second, but
can't remember now) was just stunning.

Chuck Vance (and I'm sure she's a good curler, too)

Personally, I've been enjoying the games.

Me too. Once every four years that we (in the U.S.) get to watch
curling...

Screw the other stuff - I'm adicted to curling this year. Does anybody
else
live in an area where shuffleboard is played in bars? Not the one played
on
cruise ships, but on a raised wooden table with hand pushed pucks? It's
pretty must the same game in miniature.

There is a small bar up the road from our house that has an old shuffle
board. My wife and I will sometimes go up and play on Sundays when the bar
is quiet.

Great fun, however my bride regular kicks my rear... :(
