Route, departure time, rest stops and incidentals are, at this point, all flexible enough to accommodate requirements at the end of the road. Advise me.....somebody.....please. Leave so that you either go through Chicago before 4pm or after 7pm but before 10pm. The Cubs are out of town so the Kennedy will just be suffering it's normal over capacity traffic. However the White Sox are at home against the Yankees to the area around the Dan Ryan expressway is going to be AFU more so than normal and then of course the freeking construction on the Bishop Ford Section once you clear the Sox's stadium. Get off at North Ave and cut over to Lakeshore drive. Go past the museums before cutting back over to I-90/94 and take the Chicago Skyway/Indiana Toll Road to I-65. Some destruction in Indiana but not much but some stuff on I-74 going into Ohio so take I-65 through Indiana and KY to TN. Exit at Briley Parkway on I-65 and take that East to I-40 to Knoxville and follow the signs to Townsend. There was construction on both I-65 in KY and I-75 in KY but I believe the I-65 variety is a bit more tolerable. Wow! Thanks, Wayne! You have my cell phone number I do indeed. I'll try to provide an update while en route. Wolfgang |

We fixin' to have us a chump-o-ree! :) You sound almost like a Texan. :-) Brookies, browns, rainbows, carp.....hike, sit, jump up and down and bark like a chicken.....whatever. It's all good. I expect we could do all of the above (except maybe the carp). I only wish that I could give y'all a firm ETA to help facilitate logistics. My problem is......in a word.....Chicago. If you've ever driven through it, you know. If not, I'll explain in detail later. For now, suffice it to say that deciding what time to leave here on Wednesday (the available options have been narrowed down to 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 or 11:00 p.m.) or Thursday (12:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, or 4:00 a.m.), and whether to make a 200 mile detour around that ugly mother-****er or put the pedal to the metal and blast a hole through it has given me a case of the fantods. The good news is that the dithering is more pressure than I can stand for long......a firm decision (subject, of course, to the vagaries of chance in a universe that did, after all, elect two bushes to national office for a combined total of three terms.....yeah, that's worth a moment's thought) will be arrived at by the weekend. I figure my driving time to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 13 hours. Route, departure time, rest stops and incidentals are, at this point, all flexible enough to accommodate requirements at the end of the road. Advise me.....somebody.....please. I'll give it a shot. I have a similar problem in that I can either drive through Dallas (the most direct route) or go around it via state roads. The positive for going through the Big D is that it's interstate all the way (and a speed limit of 70). The negative is that it's interstate all the way. :-} At the very least, why don't you plan to be at Elkmont on Friday a.m. Barring unforeseen calamities, I'll definitely be there some time on Thursday. If all goes well, we'll have Wayne and Jeff also arriving then, and we can do some serious damage to whatever water is within driving distance. To say nothing about the damage we'll do to our knees and livers. You'll have to have good knees and be faster than Mr. Miller to do much damage to your liver. :) Wolfgang who has tried......and failed.....on both counts. |
