Will also need a box, or four, or flies. I saw your links but which is the
best, and are the fish as selective to fly patterns, as compared to Penn's,
or can I just throw a shiny hook out there and catch 20 inchers??

Just get your ass out here and we'll come up with some flies for you.

Warren gave you some good sites.

Most of our rivers are freestone and GENERALLY, our hatches aren't as
heavy and the fish aren't as selective to pattern as what you and Tom
have described on Penns. However, their character is very different from
Penns and presentation is usually very important.

After fishing with you, I'm sure you'll catch a ****load of fish if you
make it out.

I'll have lots of Stimulators in various sizes, and lots of Stonefly nymphs
also. A 6 weight might be handy also.

Have you thought about getting one of those turbo
whistles that attach to the outside of the car ?
I have them on the rack on the roof of my van. I
have no idea if they really work, but they were
cheap. I pass quite a few deer.

If they really worked, don't you think more people would have them?

Sorry for another post but I thought I would cut you off at the pass.

I'd be worried the damned thing might spook a deer into crossing the road...

Apparently, that can be a problem. I have had the same thing happen
using my car horn. Thankfully I was able to miss that deer. The
problem was that there was another one following that I didn't see.

I'm about ready to purchase a "deer vaporizer" for the front of my 2003 Dodge

keeping this truck a long time.

They don't. If they did, they'd be spooking deer all beside, on, and
around the road. No telling which way a nervous deer will jump.
Instead the deer stand around in the median or on the road sides and
browse away. However, some _people_ can hear them and get damned
annoyed by them. Get one of those behind you, coming up to pass at
about 2mph faster than you're going and you're about nutso by the time
they finally go by. Especially if there are any overpasses during
that time. Gah. Either they're not as popular or my hearing has
started to go (more) in the past 3 or 4 years. I can now drive down
I35 without wincing very often.

The FIRST thing you should do when you see a deer -- the first deer --
is to slow down to something approaching zero mph.

Sheesh!

Kind of hard to do when they are jumping from a ditch when you are
heading right into the sun and can hardly see. Thankfully I was able
to slow down enough that it caused only cosmetic damage.

Sheesh x 2!

First damn deer I ever hit so GFY. g
