By-the-by, you might be just atwitter over "Gussie" and your perceived ideas of some sort of noblesse oblige on his part, but I suspect neither he or the current generation would stop to **** on you if you were on fire unless there was some chance of loss to them - a sentiment I'm sure you'll claim to return...the difference being that they'd never know or care that you exist regardless of you blazing away or just blowing smoke... There were a whole lot of Weckers and Steppigs, my relations, who worked at Anheuser-Busch and to a man they had nothing but respect and admiration for the Busch family. Ya know, a whole bunch of the guys I know who are commanded by another guy named Bush have nothing but respect and admiration for him...and they voted for him from Iraq... Why do you care ? I mean it's not like a great beer connoisseur such as your ownself is actually gonna drink a Budweiser. I'm pretty sure that Danl's drunk a Bub or two. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've seen him drink one of Warren's (who always buys the cheapest **** in the Stop-n-Go). -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

(Although it is kind of surreal to hear Mr. Elite to rant about other people being snobs) I can't keep from giggling about that part of it. People who are very into something form "elitist" opinions as to what is good or bad and these opinions generally differ widely from what the average Joe thinks. This is true of lots of things - literature, movies, music, fly rods, beer, wine, food, etc. etc. etc. There is no science for ranking the "best" or "worst" or "good" or "bad" in any of these things. Different tastes for different people. Actually, in the case of beer and wine, and maybe some of the other categories listed, there is a science for ranking "good" and "bad. In the case of beer, organizations exist that define beer "styles" and definitions of what characteristics those "styles" must or must/must not and may/may not exhibit. These organizations offer formal classes to those that want to learn more about beer and/or become judges of beer competitions. Competitions are held with the intent of making the best beer in a given style per the style guidelines. Other competitions are held to see who are the best judges. To be certified, judges must pass tests to prove that they can taste the difference between style A and styles B thru Z and that they are able to identify why a given sample does or does not meet the style guidelines for a given style and what technical problems, like various infections, might be apparent in the sample. I have taken most of the courses necessary to take the judges test, but have never completed the task. It's harder than one might imagine. That probably makes me a beer snob. OK, I can live with that. But when a panel of certified beer judges rank a set of beers in a given category, the fact that this beer is a better example of this style than that beer is a scholarly endeavor and not just " I like bud and bud says bud is a Pilsener so bud is a good Pilsener". The fact that, in a Pilsener competition, bud comes out stinking like Wally's waders the day after MoosePoot Stew Night at the Penn's Clave just tears up our Chowderhead of Chambana. Why, I don't know. Lots of people drink bud. Good for them. If ya want to get drunk, its a serviceable tool. If you want to drink a good Pilsener, bud ain't it. If anyone is interested: http://www.bjcp.org/ Danl Glad to see ya posting, Willi! Don't be a stranger. |

Classes on the subject would help anyone know the difference between a good Pilsener and bud. Whether one likes good Pilseners or bud is another matter. The square root of -1 is an irrational number. Classes on the subject would help anyone know the difference between rational and irrational numbers. Whether one likes rational or irrational numbers is another matter. Danl |
