Gosh, you guys dream big. :-) I'm sure of one trip next year, and that will be up to the Crowsnest Pass, Canuckistan at the end of July/beginning of August. I plan on fishing in the CNP tomorrow...heh heh heh. Gotta love winter fishing. Tim Lysyk |

"Willi" wrote I fished the Bighorn twice. The first time was a number of years ago. I didn't have a boat and wading access isn't the best. Long story, but, I travel with three WaterMaster kickboats !! Several times I've worked out "shuttle service" by loaning one to someone I met in the campground then drifting and driving together. Now that I think about it these boats will be "in the area" for your western clave in June ... although I don't know where you might use then, I'd be happy to loan them to you Willi ( I know one of the outfitters near West Fork on the Madison rents out WaterMasters by the day so there must be places they are useful) I've only used mine on Hebgen and Yellowstone lakes in that area, although I looked into shuttle on the lower HFork but always found "good enough" wade access. That little fly shop in Ashton does shuttle down there and the guy that runs it is very helpful. |

Sounds like a good place to hang out, Bob. I don't know about it from a fly fishing point of view, but the Tellico is a very rich source of archaeological information pertaining to the Indians of the Archaic period. The Tellico is host to 23 excavated sites, with ten of them clusters around the Blount/Monroe county area, and the Loudon/Blount Counties area, just south of highway 411. It also includes the site of the one time Cherokee capital, Chota. I'd keep my eye to the ground!! :-) Snakefidller- novice flintnapper... Wow. One more testimonial to the incredible breadth of expertise on ROFF. If I make the trip I'm thinking about, most of my looking at the ground will be with the intent of making sure I don't step on a rattlesnake or fall off a cliff. I have a couple of points and a partly finished pipe that my brother and I found on our farm when I was young. It actually is very interesting - the pipe is made of some kind of greenish-gray stone that I've never seen in NC. The points are also interesting, but were much more common than pipes. Bob |

Growing up in the city I have never been so lucky as to find such things. My daily ground scores included bottle caps, cigarette butts and the occasional coin. Oh yea, and not infrequently a page from a playboy magazine blown under a bush. I like your ground score better! I'd like to see your points. I might could tell what period they came from, as each period had distinctive points ranging from Clovis to Kirkland and others. The pipe may very well be from another state,as there is evidence that the Mississippian and Woodland period Indians traveled between states, trading supplies. The points of course were utilitarian, therefore more abundant, while the pipes were used ceremoniously and also served as non-utilitarian artwork. Any design on the pipe would give clues as to when it was made. Really cool stuff to have! I'm envious! Snakefiddler-always with my nose to the ground...... Bob Possibly Minnesota pipe stone. Some of it is that colour. The AmerInds (is that still PC? Certainly PC enough for ROFF) traded much more extensively than most of our grade school and above educations ever mentioned. I have read in our DNR information that pipe stone went over great distances. -- rbc:vixen,Minnow Goddess,Willow Watcher, and all that sort of thing. Often taunted by trout.
