what's that stink in the room...?? .....
Democrats are split on how to deal with Acorn, the liberal "community organizing" group that deployed thousands of get-out-the-vote workers last election. State and city Democratic officials -- who've been contending with its many scandals -- are moving against it. Washington Democrats are still sweeping Acorn abuses under a rug. On Monday, Nevada officials charged Acorn, its regional director and its Las Vegas field director with submitting thousands of fraudulent voter registration forms last year. Larry Lomax, the registrar of voters in Las Vegas, says he believes 48% of Acorn's forms "are clearly fraudulent." On Thursday, prosecutors in Pittsburgh, Pa., also charged seven Acorn employees with filing hundreds of fraudulent voter registrations before last year's general election. Acorn spokesman Scott Levenson calls the Nevada criminal complaint "political grandstanding" and says that any problems were the actions of an unnamed "bad employee." But Catherine Cortez Masto, Nevada's Democratic Attorney General, told the Las Vegas Sun that Acorn itself is named in the criminal complaint. She says that Acorn's training manuals "clearly detail, condone and ... require illegal acts," such as requiring its workers to meet strict voter-registration targets to keep their jobs. Other Democrats on the ground have complaints. Fred Voight, deputy election commissioner in Philadelphia, protested after Acorn (according to the registrar of voters and his own investigation) submitted at least 1,500 fraudulent registrations last fall. "This has been going on for a number of years," he told CNN in October. St. Louis Democrat Matthew Potter, the city's deputy elections director, had similar complaints. Elsewhere, Washington state prosecutors fined Acorn $25,000 after several employees were convicted of voter registration fraud in 2007. The group signed a consent decree with King County (Seattle), requiring it to beef up its oversight or face criminal prosecution. In the 2008 election, Acorn's practices led to investigations, some ongoing, in 14 other states. The stink is bad enough that some congressional Democrats have taken notice. At a March 19 hearing on election problems, Michigan Rep. John Conyers, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, pressed New York Rep. Gerald Nadler, chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, to hold a hearing on Acorn. He called the charges against it "serious." Mr. Nadler agreed to consider the request... |

dodge. but you cannot deny your thuggish refusal to acknowledge or correct a lie that you posted about an NRA Board member. Your past stuff more than suggests that some motivation for your intense dislike of Obama is racist.. And now I will venture that you are or will become a fellow traveler in Aryan Nations type circles. The tip off is your willingness to participate in a smear of someone like Professor Olson, an activist in some conservative causes. That means/ends swishiness is pretty characteristic of low brow folk besotted with a radical ideology that seems to have lots of answers. IE Communism, fascism, Rand-ism, La Rouche-ism etc.. At least you might consider just dropping the charade and stop trying to pass yourself off as a conservative. Dave |

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Dan Boren, Oklahoma's only Democrat in Congress, predicts his party will lose seats in elections later this year. While such a statement falls in the category of conventional wisdom that historically has the party in power losing congressional seats in mid-term elections, Boren parts company with others within his own party by suggesting such a setback would be a "good thing for Oklahoma and for me.'' "If we have a tight majority one way or another, that puts me in the driver's seat,'' the three-term lawmaker said. "In the 112th (Congress), I probably will have the most influence I have ever had, no matter who has the majority.'' Describing a Republican takeover of the House as a "tall order'' for the GOP, Boren said his party, even if it retains the majority in a new Congress that convenes in 2011, will be forced back toward the center politically. |

During his campaign, President Obama's advisers promised an economic
stimulus that would be "timely, targeted and temporary." It sounded pretty good. But now congressional Democrats are pushing something very different. The legislation written by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is shortsighted, with potentially harmful long- term ramifications. What was supposed to be an immediate boost to our economy has morphed into yet another overreaching spending boondoggle. There's no place for things like $45 million for ATV trails and government office renovations. Yet, that's precisely the sort of unnecessary spending that Reid and Pelosi are pushing. Perhaps that's why polls show most Americans want major changes to the stimulus bill moving through Congress. The Republican Party is listening, and ready to work with President Obama to craft legislation that would immediately create jobs. We should first agree that with so many taxpayers struggling to pay their own bills, every dollar must help job creation. Republicans offered ideas to focus the stimulus directly on creating jobs and helping homeowners, but the Democrat leaders in Congress preferred the top-down big government approach. In his news conference this week, the president was selling fast and hard. He clearly senses that the American people have had enough of these trillion-dollar spending sprees. As the loyal opposition, Republicans have a responsibility to call him out when he errs, and work with him when he is right. In that spirit, let's recognize the Democrats' spending bill is a mistake. If you like government dependence, you will love the Reid- Pelosi plan that they are jamming through Congress. |

Same old same old. Zero specifics. No alternatives, no participation,
no negotiation, no,no,no. Makes you wonder if the rightwing congressno- nos should be cashing their paychecks, considering that most are doing nothing to earn their pay except passing on the press releases of the radical America haters and giving cover and enabling the fringies like the Beanster and his ultra radical buddies to spew their half truths. and . . . Bad Democrats Bad Bad Bad
World climate change neglected for 8 years in the face of overwhelming evidence, while the Rs conduct a war on science and curry favor with ignorant clowns (some of whom can't even pass a CPA exam after years of diddling) and snake-handler medicine show scammers and sleazy mail order pastors. And now the Dems are bad because they want to get the USA up to speed? Shame on you Dems. But then Beanster? I caught you posting a lie. Caught you cold. No way can you deny that. But then if you can deny climate change, I guess denying a patent lie is probably as easy as fudging professional credentials. I wonder id Professor Olson is aware of your efforts to smear him? You a member of the NRA? Dave |
