What a ridiculous bunch of idiotic bull****. Most of us don't
have to take formal classes to know what kind of beer we like.

...
The square root of -1 is an irrational number. Classes on the subject would
help anyone know the difference between rational and irrational numbers.
Whether one likes rational or irrational numbers is another matter.

You're such a kind man to try and explain these things to
all us ignorant folk. Why we wouldn't know what to think
of our beer if good, kind Mr. Dan'l Finn didn't deign to
favor us with his dumbass, yuppie beer snob bull****.

This is not meant as a reply to any given person's post. I wanted to say
something and I just needed a place to stick my thoughts ( yeah, yeah, ha,
ha ... stuck with the rest of my head, up my ... )

I've never met anyone, not one person, that wasn't a snob and a bigot about
something. Indeed I believe it's part of being human ... with the
awareness of self seems to come a belief that "self" is better than
others....certainly a need to believe so, a need that will overwhelm facts
and logic

So, it seems to me that all discussion of whether someone is a snob is
meaningless .... and only discussing what subjects he/ she feels superior
about give much insight into individual characteristics.

That said, and being a 18 year sober recovering alcoholic anti-booze snob, I
think it says reams about this particular collection of bored people that
beer is important enough to warrant such intense feelings and lengthy
discussion.

I can remember the 'booze snob" stage of the disease .... alcohol being so
important to me ... but in a "good way," of course
............ and the "there was nobody left to even bluff" stage, not that
much later.

Larry ( who wasted a lot of life and not all of it on "cheap" booze and who
advises drinking Diet Coke :-)

That said, however, one of the best fishing books ever, IMO is _The Hell
With Fishing_, courtesy of Webster and Zern

I can't seem to locate my copy of that book at the moment, but I
believe Ed illustrated all his books himself, as he also illustrated
his F&S collumns and the Nash ads in sporting mags.

His sketches may look a bit like Webster's, but they're Ed's. I've
watched him sketch people while carrying on a conversation with them.

Out of curiosity, I just googled Ed Zern, and found a site with a
number of his cartoons:

(and let's not leave out the
other "The Hell With...." books)...heck, it was probably an instant
classic...

It's not about beer. It's about that nudnik's insufferable hypocrisy and
intolerance.

A great year! We did a lot of fishing and hunting.

Somehow I don't think I could wrangle "a lot of fishing and hunting" out of
a visiting professor in my field :-)

Jon, did you ever consider that you might be in the wrong field? (:-))

Thank's rw, that makes me feel much better about the group G.

I might try and hit the Brown Drakes on Silver ... where do you fish them?
the lower section? do you have to float? or are they throughout the whole
creek?

I've only fished the hatch once, and it was down by the bridge just
upstream of Picabo. They like muddy bottoms.

Let me know when you're out there, Larry. I'll join you if I can. It's a
total timing thing, but it's insane when you hit it.

I think you'll find that _To Hell With Fishing_ was Webster and Zern.
In fact, I absolutely know that you'll find that, and in the offhand
chance that you somehow manage to "find" otherwise, that source is
wrong...and from that very book, a quote apropos to another part of this
very thread :

"...many fishermen use flies instead of worms. They think it is more
hoity-toity. If worms cost two bits apiece, and you could dig Royal
Coachmen and Parmacheene Belles out of the manure pile, they would think
differently. This is called human nature."

_To Hell With Fishing_, Ed Zern and HT Webster (really)

Once again, not gonzo enough. You're slipping.

not to intrude in a fine tar baby tussle, but...uh...will you...uh...be
bringing any of your homebrew to the madison this year? i'll bring
several ribbons!! the brew you shared at henrys fork was my only
experience with gourmet beer, and i enjoyed it immensely...though all
those other *******s slurping at it did prevent me from having the full
