Yeah, just wanted to yank Rick's chain. Nothing in the Constitution
that says we get a free education, deserving or not. Same thing with
military retirement or the GI bill. We just put programs (and taxes)
in place and continue them long after the original situation that
caused that is over and done with. These are nice perks that many
people think they've "earned." Its the cost of doing business when
your business is the government. Its just long term investment for
the government. Give the folks education, make them more productive,
earning potential goes up and they pay more into taxes. Since I still
work for the government, 100% of my income comes out of your taxes.
The government payed to make me more marketable and now they are
paying again for what they created. Being brilliant doesn't guarantee
you an education, if you want it, someones gonna have to pay for it.
Frank Reid

No yanking my chain.. We knew that even with a full scholarship we would
still be paying a boat load. We set up funds fall the kids after each one
was born.. The oldest daughter almost has as much with the funds and savings
as what she was awarded in the scholarships.. She earned the scholarships
via her hard work and effort in school. But depending on where she goes, she
had things covered one way or another.. We are just proud that she is a
great daughter that has a good head on her shoulders and isn't messed up in
drugs or other things...Political views dont matter at all when they are
strung out on drugs or worse.. So we feel very fortunate to have the
children we have. Can't take all the credit though, her mom is great as are
the grand parents..

I'm so rich (self-made -- grew up in a trailer park) that my daughters
can go to school anywhere they want and I won't even notice the cost.

I'm also a political liberal. I believe that the growing disparity of
wealth in this country is evil, and is leading to a have/have-not class
structure. I'm more than willing to pay more taxes (way more) so we can
have better public health care, education, and other social services
that only government can offer.

Evidently, according to your diagnosis, Rick, I have cancer.

Don't get well soon, Steve!

No where did I say I liked Bush... Yes he has given all Republicans a bad
name.. Can't change that till next year.. But it will be worse with
Clinton.. More taxes even bigger government. After letting the Klintons rip
off the american public once, you would think that we all would be running
from them now, but we as americans have a short memory now. Lets face it, to
be in politics, its all about who can be the biggest crook and get away with
it.

It's class warfare, and my class is winning, but it shouldn't be.

You're a fool. I shouldn't even be wasting my time discussing this with
you, but ...

The US has the most inefficient health-care system in the civilized
world, or even the semi-civilized world. We have higher costs and worse
outcomes. The rich get the best care available, and the poor and the
struggling middle class get dick. It's a disgrace.

Now our Dear Leader, GWB, says he's going to veto the next SCHIP bill.
It's too expensive, leads to "socialized medicine" he says. This is
after spending billions (soon to be trillions) on the Iraq debacle
(based on phoney stove-piped "intelligence") and signing every
pork-laden Republican spending bill that's ever crossed his desk.

You're a fool.

I guess you missed the point, which is:

Wealthy people have a responsibility to pay their fair share of taxes to
support the common good. The past (nearly) eight years has been a
history of taking from the poor and giving to the rich, or, more
accurately, the super rich.

It's curious how the poor and the struggling middle class have let this
happen. I suspect the root cause is the Horatio Alger syndrome -- many
people think that they will one day be wealthy. They're kidding themselves.

I've been very fortunate with my financial situation. It's been a
combination of hard work, frugality, good investments, and a great deal
of luck. Probably luck being the most important factor. I want to pay
more taxes, and I want everyone in my bracket to pay more taxes, so we
can have a decent health care, education, and other social services for
those not so fortunate.

I DON'T want to pay more taxes to support a deceitfully-sold endless war
in Iraq.

Evidently, neither of you girls has the slightest idea of the definition
of "liberal" (classical or "modern") or any understanding of economics
(macro-, micro-. political, or otherwise), and at least one of you has
no idea of the meaning of "middle class." Here's a hint: there is no
such thing as "upper middle class" - if anyone is a US citizen, and MUST
label themselves, they are at best "middle class" and there is no way to
gather enough money or property to ever become "upper class." If Bill
Gates, Warren Buffet, and all the Waltons pooled their assets and gave
it to another US citizen, that person would still be, at best, "middle
class." But it is VERY amusing to see that "Mr. Liberal" imagines
himself to have eeked up past others in "class"...

But do carry on,
