Yes, I do.....on both counts. Continue.


Their morale is excellent and many of them have volunteered
for second and third tours. You know little of the military, BJ.

That would clearly make two so far, including yourself. My experience is
with the Reservists. They are ****ed, and few, if any
are interested in continuing in the Reserves, let alone a second tour.
Take that to the bank....

Yeah, I saw that. Odd coincidence. Would you believe I don't any property
in the area either? It's true. As a matter of fact, I don't own the house
I live in. Some bank or other owns it......I don't recall at the moment
just which one......it seems to have changed hands a couple of times in the
two years I've lived here. I don't own a grandfather clock either. I used

Fair enough. Then he replaced the motor. I figure that with storage fees,

don't really own the damned thing anymore......though, maybe I still have a
legitatemate financial interest, huh? That's all true too. None of that
bothers me though. I long ago got used to the fact that ownership can be
transitory and ephemeral. Take, for instance (and getting back to what we
were talking about), this real estate thingy. I would certainly LIKE to be
able to capitalize on it, but I've just never been able to make it happen.
Hell, just recently there was a big boom down in......um.....hm........where
the hell was that.......um.....oh yeah!.....Baton Rouge....just after
Katrina and.......whoa!......talk about yer odd little coincidences!

I helped pay for two RVs

and drove one down to Waveland for people to
use while volunteering their help.

What happens to them after that?

We helped out with flooded
homes/buildings by washing down the studs/beams with a solution to
kill the mold (the walls/ceilings/floors had been pulled apart and
thrown away). We also distributed supplies (water, toilet paper,
food, blankets, etc.). There was six of us, five men and one women,
and we ranged in age from 65 to 75.

And, further, I had a bowl of oatmeal and raison toast for breakfast,
a ham sandwich for lunch, took a nap between 3 and 4, and have had two
bowel movements since I got up this a.m. Anything else?

Well, yeah, instead of just bitching all the time, why don't you use some of
your vast wealth to help some bombed or white phosphorous burned
grandchildren somewhere?

And hey!, speaking of descendents......how ARE those grandchildren? They
fattened up and ready for the sacrificial alter yet? Better
hurry.....time's running out....they must be getting close to draftable age
by now, but I don't know how much longer we can make this war last......and
who knows how long we might have to wait for the next one? You might end up
having to do the job yourself......and THEN where would the rage and
justification come from? :)

Or is that yet another one of those things about which you'd rather not say?

The "Catalogue of Philanthropy" issued the report you're likely referring to.
It bases their rankings using just two factors: wealth vs giving. They refer
to it as "how much you can afford to give vs how much you gave. Whatever, it's
giving as % of income, without regard to cost of living variations, by
geography.

ie: Someone pulling in $150K who gives $15K to charity would rank below
someone making $25K who gives $2.5K. Figure out where each lives and you have
your "study".

There was another such study published recently that used differing
methodology (factoring cost-of-living, etc) with significantly different
results. In that study, MA and most of New England were in the top dozen
states.

He (Clinton) could not take a book advance while in office. He had a
net worth of around $12 million the day *before* he left office.
Pretty nice set up -- enter office in 92 with $250,000 net worth, and

Ah, yes, the reservists. Join to get all the bennies - a little extra
pay and help with the college bills, but when it comes to fulfilling
their contract some (not all or even a majority) bitch and moan. Know
a couple of them myself. Overall the reserves are pretty good and we
couldn't get along without them. But they must realize that they
joined the *military*, not a college fraternity.
