best murky water lures
 

anyone know the best lures to use in murky waters? i hear alot of stuff
saying noisy crankbaits or spinnerbaits, but then others keep saying dark
plastic worms?...any ideas?

I fished in a mud lake yesterday and my most productive colors were green
pumpkin and junebug in 5 inch sticks

That totally depends upon the circumstances you're experiencing at the
time. If the fish are active, a rattle-trap can be very effective as can a
single colorado blade spinnerbait. But, if the fish aren't feeling like
chasing a lure, a dark worm will catch fish. Dark lures offer up a great
silhouette in the water, making the lure easier for the fish to target.


And some colors will suprise you. For instance the translucent Natural Shad
color Kinami or Senko stick worm looks like a great clear water bait... and
it is..., but in an algae bloom or stained water it turns almost black
giving a great silhouette. against the murky colored water.

Oh, I know that some colors other than black work well in murky/muddy
waters. But he asked about dark worms versus noisy lures.

I goop up all my plastics with "Hot Sauce" Gel about every 5th cast or so.
They seem to find the bait better in murky water, and hang on longer.

Depends, is the water always murky, or is it high from a rain or
something along those lines??? If the fish live in the murky water a
majority of the time, then a spinnerbait with a HUGE Colorado blade in
chart. or white/Chart. or Texas Craw (black/Chart.) would be my choice.
If the fish are not used to it, and you are stuck fishing a murky area
and have no access to clearer water, I would use a really big jig with
the loudest rattle you can find and a big trailer.

There is a lot more to the choice selection, but that would be a start.

So why not just use black?

Because the Natural Shad color also works great in gin clear water too.
Some of us don't always have the option of going to the lake and checking
out the conditions before we go to the lake, so we can't always be prepared
for every circumstance. By knowing about alternatives that work you have
one more weapon in your arsenal to meet unexpected conditons. This bait
color is one that meets two radically different purposes.
