Votes are coming in, and it looks at last count like the best Kerry can hope
for is to tie, where it goes to the (Republican-controlled) House.

Living outside the US, I can feel the air getting sucked out from the
collective gasp of other nations. This week has been dominated on TV by talk
shows and editorials from other countries showing overwhelming support for
Kerry, or at least for a change away from Bush. I think its also indicative
that all the major urban centers in the US have voted to change Presidents,
and that of all the places who actually FELT the impact of 9/11....New York
City, voted ovwhelmingly for Kerry. The rest of the country is running from
paranoia. A woman was quoted on CNN yesterday as saying 'nothing else
matters. I'm voting for my personal safety". Yeah, right. I'd like to
smack her upside the head (which would be more than a little microcosmic).

So we can look forward to 4 more years of Bush. But worse years than before.
He now feels like he has a *mandate*, a vote of approval to continue his
policies. If we thought he was stubborn and out-of-touch before, we ain't
seen nothing yet. We can expect the national debt, already beyond
imaginable, to skyrocket immediately: the Repubs have already exceeded the
debt ceiling through 'creative bookkeeping', but put off officially having
it raised beyond $7.384 trillion until after the election. The first quarter
of next year is already predicted to break the previous record, set in the
first quarter of this year.

We can look forward to 4 more years of war, of international alienation
(coupled with a "we don't care, we don't have to" attitude from the US), 4
more years of forests and wilderness lands being sold off for industry
profit, 4 more years of belligerant government for big business, 4 more
years of undoing environmental policies, 4 more years of increased impacts
on global warming, 4 more years of dirty politics like what Tom Delay did in
Texas, and almost certainly there will be more 'bedroom scandals' like Enron
and Halliburton.

We've given the henhouse keys to the foxes. It was handed to them by the
countryfolk of the heartland, people who believe the hyperbole and spin, who
actually felt that their lives were in personal danger, and who have no idea
the harm they have just done to our country.

God help us all.

It's the same zero sum game as 2000. Even if by some chance the results
in Ohio get changed to send the electoral votes to Kerry, he's going to
have to live with the won the college, lost the popular vote stuff Bush
dealth with.

It's over, best those of us who think Bush is a danger can hope for
right now is that over the next two years they screw up enough to get
these single issue people PO'd enough but not enough to do anymore
longer term damage and hopefully get control of the house away from the
republicans in 2006.

Nice of George to open the door to the first female US president in
2008. Another president Clinton on the way.

In your present condescention mode, you *would* suspect that. Here's
what you *should* be considering, IMHO: The Dems offered no viable
alternative to Bush (which was all this election was about). By all
rights, someone with some uniting capabilities or a little charisma
should have been able to defeat Bush, and clearly would have done so.
Kerry offered neither quality. Ballots could have had two boxes in this
election, FOR BUSH and AGAINST BUSH, because Kerry brought nothing to
the table to vote FOR.

No, I think if you were some hick farmer from the South or Midwest, you'd
have no idea of what just happened, but you'd be overjoyed that you were now
personally safe from having a DC10 crash into your local WalMart, and proud
as hail that your nephew was protecting America by making Haliburton rich.
You'd not understand the fundamental crime against Capitalism it is to allow
Ken Lay and others to cut and run. And you'd find some way to blame the
screaming national debt and deteriorating foreign relations on Clinton. And
you'd probably say things like "Heck, the ice caps aren't gonna melt in the
next 4 years" and "Who needs wilderness areas anyway...no one ever goes
there!" And you'd think the French are a bunch of silly, inferior furrin
dimwits with foreign accents, and that the AyeRabs are all terrorists. And
you'd have no idea how much the "educated elite" you just re-empowered were
leading you around by the nose.

This is the same mindset that prompted Kerry to gush: "Can I get me a
hunt'n license here?" and precisely why you are befuddled at the
outcome. You are no more than an elitist bigot who is living under the

Well, you're getting none of that comtempt from me, Chuck. I don't mind
trailers or moonshine, I like the Heartland, and personally prefer places
without indoor plumbing. I enjoy a good round track as much as the next guy,

But if you're talking about someone who felt that this election boiled down
to protecting their own personal self from some sort of imminent terrorist

THAT'S what I'm talking about. I cannot believe that anyone supported Bush

all live in trailers and drink moonshine, and some of us even have
indoor plumbing; hell, some of us even hate NASCAR and the rodeo.

Well, you're getting none of that comtempt from me, Chuck. I don't mind
trailers or moonshine, I like the Heartland, and personally prefer places
without indoor plumbing. I enjoy a good round track as much as the next guy,
and think cowgirls are hot. I would never write someone off because they
lived in the countryside.

But if you're talking about someone who felt that this election boiled down
to protecting their own personal self from some sort of imminent terrorist
attack, at the expense of all the other issues, and voted accordingly, then
THAT'S what I'm talking about. I cannot believe that anyone supported Bush
for any other reason, because the evidence just isn't there that his fiscal,
environmental, moral or intellectual policies are sound.

I am damn proud to be from the boondocks, because I feel that the rural
folks absolutely have the better sense of values in a lot of ways My heart
lies with the country folk. But they sure got collectively fooled this time.

No, I think we all have the problem now.

Nah! A Rudy and Hillary makes more sense.

Do you think that the conservative Republicans will vote for him in
the primaries.

I suspect that they'll do whatever God and their President tell them
to do.

One this is correct....Kerry was a ****-poor offering for the Democrats
to vote on. And I just saw where JK called the Prez to concede. I didn't
like either choice the parties offered. While Kerry was an out-of-touch
Easterner, I couldn't make myself vote for someone who says "Nukular". I
heard the election was between the Incompetent and the Incoherent. That
fits my take exactly. I see where the Bible Belt voted their religion
and not common sense. Most of the rural Republicans let their leaders in
Washington lead them around by the nose. Not a thinking man's party by
any stretch of the imagination. Lemmings all. But then you have the Dems
who want the government to pay for every damn thing. So..... this time I
voted my pocket book. It didn't matter which way I voted because Idaho
is one of if not THE most republican state - anything but a far-right
vote is discounted. I voted to go against the discontinuance of overtime
at work, against the deficit growing so damn big - pork included - and
the fact that my wife takes 15 necessary meds - costing us in excess of
300.00 w/ copay. I feel the republicans are in bed with the
pharmaceuticals (and other BIG businesses) and not watching out for the
middle class at all. I am a hunter and avid fly fisherman. I want the
government out of my life. And lower taxes - all right wing agendas, but
at the same time, I expect near pristine forests, fishing waters and air
- left wing agendas.

So now we have four more years of a little self-centered squat bodied
dipstick in the White House. So be it - at least time King George was
elected and not anointed. I don't think America will go to hell in a
hand basket but we sure are going to lose a lot more men and women in
the Middle East before it is all over.

Just My .02 cents worth.

Hell, that ain't so bad. I know people who pay more than that EVERY
YEAR!

I want the
government out of my life.

So, you've notified your local fire department that they are never,
under ANY circumstances, to enter onto your property?

Just My .02 cents worth.
