Cabelas Dry Plus Premium vs Simms Freestone waders.
I just ordered a pair of Cabelas Dry Plus Premium waders for $140. I'm
wondering if I should have gotten the Simms Freestone waders for $150? My only concern is durability. Will the Simms Freestones last longer than the Cabelas? |

Not all flyshops are in love with Simms products. The great thing about Cabelas is the customer service. You have problems with those waders and you will get a replacement pair ASAP. With Simms, you may wait weeks. Plus, Simms will slop some goop on the surface and call it done. Do you really want to wait weeks, while the BWOs are hatching? |

The freestones are good for light fishing. I bought a pair for my father
who promptly caught a not-so-sharp edge of a gaurd-rail and ripped 'em pretty good. I patched them for Dad and they've been fine ever since. size: inseam (31) and shoe size (a real 12) always causes a problem. I ordered the cabelas guide-weight breathables for that reason. they're great in every aspect EXCEPT: they developed a leak on the thigh seam and I'm bummed. Got to send them back but this is still prime time in the salt surf for which they are still ok 90% of the time. I doubt if the waders you have will last longer. Especially since I found a belt'/strap in my van that I do not recognize. Perhaps it's yours? The good news was they refunded my money promptly, and I ended up buying a pair of Simms guide waders from them. The bad news was a serious design flaw that developed leaks in them with very little use. What they did was to glue a tape of the breathable material over the seams on the inside. Where three seams came together they glued a circular patch of the same material. Unfortunately the edges of the tapes and the patches showed through on the outside like panties through tight lycra. The friction of walking around in them wore holes at these edges along the inseams, and I am not particularly big in the thighs. The first leaks appeared about the fourth day I used them. I hung in with them for a couple of months using lots of Aquaseal, but finally sent them back. I found myself wondering whether they did any serious testing of them. The Simms waders have been just fine. Mike |
