It is time for a new wading jacket for cold weather
In completing my winter/spring fly fishing regalia, I have come to the place
where I need to replace my leaking (damn near drowned fishing with Bugcaster in his wonderful driftboad during a healthy rain storm at the Oregon coast last year -thankfully it was warm and I did catch a few fish ;) jacket. I want something warm and with lots of pockets. I saw this and wanted to know if anyone has experience with this or any jacket they like. Money is the object here, I have spent a lot upgrading my wading gear this year, so the budget is getting stretched a bit, but I don't want to get wet either (around $100 seems like I can get swing it by the household CPA). Any help is appreciated as always, and your opinion does matter to me. Chris Hodgman Convertible Wading Jacket When you are looking to get the most from one garment, look no further than the Hodgman Convertible wading jacket. This unique design easily converts from a short wading jacket to an all-purpose waist length jacket. The specially brushed nylon outer material is very soft yet extremely durable. The exclusive Horco-Tex 2000 breathable laminate makes this jacket 100% waterproof, while still remaining extremely breathable. Two large, expandable front pockets combined with the front slash pockets provide ample storage for fly boxes and assorted accessories. The front and back D-rings keep frequently used items close at hand. To help keep the elements at bay this jacket features a drawstring hood that conveniently tucks into the fleece-lined collar, storm flap covered YKK zippers, waist drawstring, and neoprene wrist cuffs. I see ezflyfish has a nice jacket on sale as well. http://www.ezflyfish.com/cocaraja.html |

It's worth every penny. Why would anyone pay less for fishing clothes, when improper dressed is equal to no fun? -- Venligst, Thanks, Grüße, Thomas Schreiber -- http://schreiber.se -- Usefull links: www.google.com www.tinyurl.com |

My rich friend Thomas Schreiber made an excellent point by suggesting One

Why would anyone pay less for fishing clothes, when improper dressed is equal to no fun? ---------- Thomas, I agree! I have never been sorry for getting quality items, especially for my outdoor adventures. I will give it some serious consideration and see if I can revise the budget... By the way, your pictures of your new born are awesome! Chris |

If you spend the extra bucks, you'd never have to worry about your fishing jacket again. One thing less to worry about = more time dreaming of fly fishing :o) -- Venligst, Thanks, Grüße, Thomas Schreiber -- http://schreiber.se -- Usefull links: www.google.com www.tinyurl.com |

Mine is going on 7 years of use and I've not had to *treat* it yet. |
You can usually get the Patagonia lightweight jacket for around $100 at
closeout places like sierra trading post. I have one and it's been real good and it packs up really tiny. That would be good for you, Chris, given the amount of gear you bring (g). bruce h |
I just bought the LL Bean Stowaway wading jacket. It's light enought to
wear in warmer months but cut large enough to allow for adequate layering on colder days. The cuffs are good, sealing tightly. Packs into an internal pocket for on-stream storage. It's not high latitude blizzard bomb-proof. But it is Gore-tex Extreme wet weather certified and it is reasonably priced. -- Stev Lenon 91B20 '68-'69 When the dawn came up like thunder http://web.tampabay.rr.com/stevglo/i...age92kword.htm |

It used to have a lousy zip but I'm glad to see they've changed it. Apart from that I love mine. Lazarus -- Remover the rock from the email address |

It is a pullover style breathable with very nice neoprene cuffs around the wrists and neck. I layer with fleece underneath to keep me warm. Judicious use of the neck cuff allows for control of body heat retained under the jacket. Mu |

For the money, this Cabelas jacket does a good job. I purchased this jacket about 6-7 years ago (each year it has new upgrades and add-ons) so this jacket is better than what I purchased. http://tinyurl.com/6ezhq I was in the same position looking for a new wading jacket this fall and would have bought the Cabelas jacket however, found last years Redington Qnimbus jacket on closeout for $70.00 and bought that instead. Good luck, JT |
I saw a knock off of a SImms windproof fleece jacket in a Lands End catalog for $70. Thinking about getting one MT |
If you want to spend a lot of money and get a great jacket, go Patagonia.
they have one of the best warranties in the business and great products. IF you don't want to go quite that high, get a Cabelas catalog. they have at least a dozen choices. They also have their own version of Gore-Tex which is supposed to be comparable. It is a lot cheaper! However if you want Gore-Tex, Cableas has about 6 different coats using it. they also have a grat warranty. You won't go wrong with them. -- |
