Reel Opinions
Hey all,
I was at BassPro recently, and had a chance to handle all the Pflueger LP Baitcasters for 2005. To put it bluntly , I am ****ed at myself for purchasing 3 more Curados. I just ordered a Pflueger Purist , which is the 3rd in line behind the President, and Trion. The bearing system in those reels in unbelievable. One thing you can do, is just lightly flick the spool forward and watch how long the thing spins freely. As for quality during actual fishing conditions, that is yet to be determined. I am excited about getting out and putting it through hell. I plan on using it as a flipping reel, and if I really like it, I will probably look to upgrade next season to a couple presidents, we will wait and see. I was just wondering if anyone has handled, and used any of the newer Pflueger reels, and what opinions they had of them. Chris |
After you get that reel and have a chance to use it, let me know how you
like it. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, but I know on my Pflueger reel that it's alot harder to adjust the tension spool the way I like it compared to my Curados. Basically on them, all I do is screw them until they're about to fall off, then tighten it slightly so it doesn't. The Pflueger takes a little bit more to get use to... in my opinion. Probably, the main difference is because it seems to have a better and faster freespool. Those things certainly do spin with that wiffle spool. I like the reel, but I'm just more accustomed to Curados. "Chris Rennert" wrote in message . .. In about a year you will be glad you purchsed the Curado's.. I did a
search on Bass Fishing Home Page, seems like the Pflueger reels are ok for casual use but they will last about a year if used. hard.. |
I like the Curado. The Pfluger is made in China and I am not in favor of
making China more powerful.. "Chris Rennert" wrote in message . .. Hey all, I was at BassPro recently, and had a chance to handle all the Pflueger LP Baitcasters for 2005. Chris Well Curados are made in Taiwan, so I guess I don't really see the arguement there, except that maybe you view China as more of a threat because they are a superpower, and not because neither Shimano or Shakespeare manufacter the aforementioned reels in the US meaning less American jobs. But that just opens a whole other can of worms. I will keep you updated on how the reel handles. I still love Curados, but if I can save $50 per reel, and get the performance and longevity I desire then that will be the direction I go. Chris |
I have about 3 of them and they're "big Bang" for the buck, but I don't
believe they can compare to my Curado's. "Chris Rennert" wrote in message . .. Hey all, I was at BassPro recently, and had a chance to handle all the Pflueger LP Baitcasters for 2005. I thought Curado's were made in Japan, when did Shimano start making
them in Taiwan? |

I've used other brands of reels in the past, some of them highly regarded by friends and associates. Now, take a look in my rod locker and see what reels are on my rods. For an almost bullet-proof, dependable reel, I look no further than my Shimano Curados. There's a lot of reels that feel good in the store, but how will they feel a year from now? I figure, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," but that's just me. Buy some and let us know how they hold up. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

I took the time this winter to take them apart, clean them, and re-oil them. I would say I have picked up and set down 100's of baitcasters on trips to the store, but something about the new Pflueger series caught my attention. I can't say they are going to last me the amount of time that my Curados have. Like you said, I ordered one , I will try it out, and see how it holds up. That is about all I can really do. Chris |
Seems like politics got into a reel discussion...Reels made in Japan
have a reputation for very good quality, China , Korea and Taiwan just so so..I only know of 2 reels made in the USA, one baitcaster and one spinner both high dollar, they seem to be well made but pricey |

Price and Performance are neck and neck for me when it comes to purchase, and in my current economical situation coupled with the necessity for quantity (tournament fishing, up time) quality takes a backseat sometimes. If it was up to me, and I could pull it off financially you would find Stella's, Calais, and Loomis rods in my boat. Unfortunately I am looking to fish as many tournaments I can, so it comes down to saving money on certain things, such as Shakespeare intrepid rods (24.99 / each) and Possibly Pflueger reels (bang for the buck). Hopefully one day I won't even have to blink at the highest quality tackle. Of course what I see as the top of the line could be different than others. So would like to avoid the argument of St. Croix over All-Star, over Loomis, and which is the best. Thanks again for the input Chris |
