My Boy Chaz

Charles is really getting a bum rap here fellas - he's an elite Bassman, not
a lowly catfisher!

He can fish with the best, and he's gonna prove it down on Center Hill.

Chaz is my pick for rofb mid tenn classic champ 2005!

Did I miss something - the last I read we have a five fish per boat
limit, no way to determine an individual winner that way with a team
limit of 5.

Charles B. Summers April 6th, 2005 04:44 AM

Hey Ronnie... the last tournament we had on Center Hill, didn't we have a 6
fish boat limit and a three fish angler limit? That way we could weigh the
anglers best three, then weigh the teams catch? I can almost swear this is
the way it was... sound familiar to you? Anyone?

Joe Haubenreich April 6th, 2005 06:22 AM

That does sound familiar. I remember the first year on Percy Priest, we went
strictly with team weights. Bob Rickard happened to have big fish, and his
fish anchored our winning stringer as well, but we weighed in six bass, I
think, to take first place. There was some bitchin' and moaning about how
that restriction cramped some people's styles, but if my memory serves, only
Rickard and I culled fish that day.

On the next two years at Center Hill, seems like we ran with a 3-fish per
person / six per team per day limit, and we kept up with individual catches
in order to determine first and second place overall -- the sum of the two
days of individual catches. In addition, there were first and second place
teams each day.

I checked the rules for the 2003 MTC on Dale Hollow Lake, and at that event
we had a 5 per person/10 per team daily limit. Again, we awarded first and
second place teams each day, plus individual first and second place based on
the cumulative weight of the two days. And, of course, big fish.

I went back and read Ronnie's account of the '03 MTC, and he weighed in 5
bass, culling two or three, on Friday, plus his partner, Fritz, weighed in
some more, so we must have stuck with those rules.

My only concern was that the ODF has only one livewell, and I'm not sure I
can keep ten three to five pound fish healthy in it. I'll throw in lake-ice
blocks, some chemicals, and keep the water circulating to see what happens.
If some turn belly up, I can just transfer them from the livewell to the
deadwell (ice chest), take the penalty, and then enjoy the fillets that
evening.

So... I'm game for the 5/10 per day limits. You ok with that, Charles? Since
Moe's not coming, and Dave can't make it, I'd say you and I are the rules
committee. I'm pretty sure the attendees would enjoy seeing me and my
partner walk up to the scales with our thirty-pound bags o' fish. I'd hate
to disappoint them.

... I placed second in the tournament. We had a three fish
limit each day and I had three the first day but only one the
second, which I will blame partly on boat trouble. ....

Ronnie Garrison April 6th, 2005 01:47 PM

That is the way it was - the boat limit twice the individual limit. But
it seems a lot of folks fussed about it - although I seem to remember
only about five individual 3 fish limits weighed in for two days.

I don't care what the limit is, it is just hard to have an individual
and team tournament unless the team can weigh in twice the individual limit.

Ronnie Garrison April 6th, 2005 01:51 PM

I remember that well, but the discussion here a few weeks ago stated
that we would have a five fish limit per boat, and it was mentioned how
everyone hated the three fish limit in 2002.

Not only did I have boat trouble the second day of that tournament, I
had scotch problems. I missed several bites the second morning - too
hung over to set the hook. I vividly remember a bass sucking under a
pop-r that morning and I remembered to set the hook about the time the
lure popped back to the surface. I had caught one of my best fish the
first day by that same long on the pop-r!

I remember being bummed at only being able to weigh 3 keepers. Definately a
bad move on that short limit...

Come on Ronnie, you don't really think that matters do ya ;) Besides, I
think the morning shakes after a night of drinking impart a special action
on the lures, at least I'm hoping so.

Shakes probaby help, as long as you don't forget to set the hook like I did.
