Penn's Clave 2005

Is there a firm date for Penn's Clave 2005? I scheduled to have the
first week of June off per a posting I found via a Google search. Who
is the official Clave Meister this year?

Yes, the dates about 28 May to 5/6 June (the 6th is a holiday). Tuesday the
31st is the standard barley stew and raffle night (any one got some bear
meat?). The clave is centered on Coburn, PA and the environs.
As always, Clavemeister Tom Littleton is the host with the most. As it sits
right now, it looks like he don't do **** any more and is pretty much
retired. In all honesty, he does a ton of stuff in the background (cabins,
ties flies, appears at fly shop openings), so it just looks like he don't do
****. During the clave, we all think we got the creek sussed out (and we're
wrong), so we just let him go off and fish and raid his fly stocks whilst
he's away.

Doubtful for me Mike. Work is pretty busy and I'm taking a few days off
the end of this month to go down to the farm in KY and put in the deer
food plots and I've already committed to going to the Western Clave in
July. Moira is low on leave after some extended time off this winter for
medical stuff. Finn McCool is of course always up for a romp in the
woods but this Monday she goes in for more paw surgery to fix what the
last surgery did not fix.

Had to trim down the dates myself this year (it's killing me) but will be
there for several days. Most likely will be there from the 26th through the
30th, and then maybe back late Friday the 3rd and last day on Saturday the
4th. Anyone else coming in early?

Packing up the plantation right now for a brief weekend excursion up to
Penn's. Will supply a quick trip report when I can late Sunday or Monday.
Expecting beautiful weather and high water. It's been dry here for 10 days
though, with nothing but blue sky in the forecast for the next 5 days.

Frank, I'll have to break with tradition and miss raffle night this year,
along with your traditional stew. I did break out that leftover stew from
deep freeze a few weeks back and it still had it's punch. It kept the
family away for at least three days..

When are you arriving? Wouldn't be the same if I didn't get to fish with
your kitchen sink at least once. :^)

Stan - are you guys getting in at a decent time on Friday? I suspect the
drake hatch will be on by then so you'll want to arrive early enough to
stake out a decent streamside location late afternoon sometime. If it is
just beginning, you'll want to be downstream somewhere, maybe Weikert, or
Cherry Run. It will be a bit different than you are used to, it will be a
Carnivale atmosphere, including all of the people. Keep an eye on the
reports through, you should be able to get stream reports that will confirm
if the hatch is on.

Now, I've never understood marketing, but does it seem a trifle... odd...
that a campground would publish a picture of a bear wandering past a picnic
table in their camp, in broad daylight? I enjoy Brother Bruin as much as
the next guy, but not necessarily in camp.

(or is that a picture of Wolfgang retreating? :-)

Mike: we usually get there at about 2 (even though we plan on being there at
noon). If we skip the on-the-road breakfast in Fishkill we can make better
time. If it means getting to Weikert in time to stake out a spot, well,
I'll pack some go food and save the stop. As the day approaches, lets make
sure to set up a meeting place.

Loaded so slowly for me that I gave up on it. Their Web designer just
isn't exactly current with things, is he / she? It seems to have been
the pics that were the problem. They aren't large, so they must have

It might save them on lawsuits if someone gets injured or killed by
the bear. "Well, duh, we show the picture of it wandering around
right on our page." Until they get the lawyer for the plaintiff
saying, "Doesn't that imply that it's a tame bear or under control by
the campground owner?" Unfortunately that's what some inexperienced
people actually will think. They'd better have some nice release
forms signed by all campers as they check in.

Luxary is the 3-quarter shower, i.e. it either costs 75cents or you can get

Some friend! Hell, I don't earn in the low 5 figures.

Besides, I got a special visit from the US Secret Service, upon Dubya's
first presidential selection, that I was under double-naught, super-secret
surveillance, for that point, until the end of the current
imperial/militaristic expansion or the end of time--whichever comes first.
Thus, I have been relegated to spending the majority of my time reading
subversive liberal literature beneath the confines of my aluminum foil tent,

Mark,
Am replying to you here, as I cannot reply to your munged address....
You may do well to get a 5 weight, as you may be tossing some big bugs up at
Penn's, but your 4 weight will work. As for tenting area, you will probably
be near clave central trailer(banner and all), so finding folks on Tuesday
should be easy. Tuesday is raffle night, so bring a prize(cheap one) for the
raffle and Joel(our rafflemeister) will have you in the drawing. Good to see
you are planning to come to Penns!

Never use MapQuest for driving directions! MapQuest mapped a route that
is 192 miles long from Carroll County (I am forty-five minutes from the
PA border on a bad day).

Mark,
Am replying to you here, as I cannot reply to your munged address....
You may do well to get a 5 weight, as you may be tossing some big bugs up

at
Penn's, but your 4 weight will work. As for tenting area, you will

probably
be near clave central trailer(banner and all), so finding folks on Tuesday
should be easy. Tuesday is raffle night, so bring a prize(cheap one) for

the
raffle and Joel(our rafflemeister) will have you in the drawing. Good to

see
you are planning to come to Penns!
Tom

(seriously, there are two shower buildings where you can get almost enough
hot water for a quarter, and if you need to wash two quarters, well,

there's
not enough)

I spent five years in the U.S. Navy; hence, I am familiar with the term
"Navy Shower" as opposed to a "Hollywood Shower." VBG

And don't leave venison, donuts, or percocet in your tent.

Somehow, I believe there must a very long story behind this statement. ;-)

Yes, they do. For tenters, BTW, just show up when you want, there will
plenty of room set aside for ROFFian visitors.
Tom

I guess that I should have read the entire thread before inquiring about
space available for tenters.
