Keep those trip reports coming.

As luck would have it, I have developed a rather curious infection, that
frankly could have did me in, but is affecting what's left of my lungs and
my coronary system. Four - eight weeks of drugs and light activity and then
they will see "what damage has been done".

Needless to say, no fishing for me anytime soon and my annual late June trek
to Michigan could be doubtful. We were going to the Missouri in two weeks
but luckily for me the landlord allowed me to book the same week next year,
how's that for optimism?

So for a while I have to fish through your trips, keep them coming will ya?

Some people will do *anything* to get out of fishing!

Take care of yourself, my friend. If you still find yourself out this
way, let me know. In the meantime, rest up and follow the doc's orders.

Hell, Wayne, I think you're just trying to get the rest of this group to go
fishing instead of just talking about it . . .

I'll make it a point to write up some TRs - planning to get out this weekend
and splash around in one of the local rivulets.

Meantime, keep planning your next fishing trip, and if you get through St
Louis give me a call.
Bob

I've skipped writing up several trips recently, but will not let the next
few pass without jotting down at least a line or two, having subsisted (nay,
gorged) on reports posted here myself.

Hang in there Wayne, and get well soon!

We all hope you get better soon. Hard for me to write a TR since I
fish the same places over and over and over but the fishing's been good
here, despite the huge runoff, and I'm expecting huge bugs anytime
soon.

There's been some good TRs lately but the flame wars have been pretty
lame :-)

Sorry to hear that. I won't be taking any more trips for awhile
and I've got all the fly fishing gear I need for now, but what
I can do is drink lots of scotch in your honor. (And what the

even pour a wee dram over an ice cube for you. ;-)

That sucks Wayne, get well soon.

TR? End-of-Season Blues?
If only the blues referred to were bluefish (known as Tailor in Aus)
we'd probably have a better report on the catchin'. End-of-season means
low water levels, the irrigators have turned the tap off. Hordes of
trophy hunters descend on the river when the water drops to chase the
big spawners. A thing in the fishes favour though, most of these
whackers are clueless: a fording ATV has a more discreet entry into the
stream than these coves, who then stand where they should be fishing,
and vice-versa.

Fishing is my cure for a migraine, well some of my migraines. If I can
get to the water safely (i.e a mate drives) I can cope with walking
into the odd fence or tree because I'm not quite with it. The day
seems slightly surreal through a veil of analgesics and the banter
tends to dry up a bit as well. Clear water can be a hazard too, as
depth perception appears to be off slightly. That coupled with some
pinhole leaks in the thigh boots meant a damp-leg day. Even that
though, has a plus: a fresh pair of socks on cold damp feet. The
fishing's pretty crook when fresh socks are a highlight.

Frankly, when a bit under the weather like that, I don't always know
whether the fishing is poor due to ordinary concentration or it's just
one of those days. Still some good comes of it, the aforementioned
whackers proceed to spook most fish within cooee of them so few fish
are actually at risk. Three spooked trout, two risers, and one to hand
.... sounds like a verse from a Christmas song I heard somewhere ...
anyway ... by "stripping off" time the head had mostly cleared and a
little new water was "discovered" on the trip home. Pretty little
section of a small stream, largely overgrown with wattle (read: a
whacker free zone) and a few fish ... oncers last evening. In the half
light it wasn't worth a serious crack, we'll leave that for either the
first decent spate or next summer whichever comes first. Odds favour
summer.

The best of the season's fishing occurred only a month or so back. A
serendipitous meeting postponement meant a free afternoon from work.
Warm, midges, no migraine and the river to myself and rising fish. They
were no easy catching either, rising in shallow smooth runs and glides
bordered by impenetrable scrub and unapproachable except from directly
behind and at times from upstream. Damn tricky timing a strike to a
fish facing you. Small #18, grey-bodied Usuals did the trick and
undone some lovely conditioned browns.

It was pretty much dryfly heaven for 4 hours casting to moving fish the
whole time. Even opening my arm up on a barbed wire fence didn't
detract from it. The look on the pharmacist's face on examining the
wound suggested a trip to the hospital was on the cards ... that would
have ruined the day. It's healed beautifully thanks to the tender
ministrations of the wife. Of course to get to the tender
ministrations bit one has too endure the customary verbal abuse and
derision bit, but I'm getting used to that.

Another season just about gone, I have a new scar, the knee is coming
good, lost some weight, the missus has hung around inflicting only a
few mental scars, and I haven't driven my fishing mates batty.
Hopefully there's a winter of sal****er fishing to pursue that last
one.

Steve

Steve and everyone else:

Thanks for the thoughts everyone, It really means a lot and I sincerely
appreciate it

We got some good news in that they finally got a good handle on the agent
causing the infection and now have a plan to get rid of it. I can walk short
distances again and seem to be gaining a little other strength back. I am
going to start pulmonary rehab in a couple of weeks once the infection is
gone and they will do the full cardiac work up to check lingering effects
there.

June is still up the air but I should be able come September.
