Apologies guys, I didn't consider itspamming - just some info on getting
20% off for those of you that are interested in visiting. ...

(admittedly I am trying to boost the webstats a little as well!)

I feel like the grinch now :-(

On the positive side, you don't get salmonella from spam!

The notion that a lot of ROFF readers (or even one) are going to fish at
a commercial pond near Glasgow because of a holiday greeting is
ridiculous on the face of it.

I really get a kick out of people who, when faced with the fact that they
have been called on their spamming, say that those who were spammed are too
'sensitive', implying that the fault lies with the spammed, not the spammer.

Not at all - I take all your points on board but I'm not going to let it
spoil my day.

Like I said have a good holiday season and great new year - whatever your
personal fishing preferences!

Okay! Don't let the door hit you on the way out!

IIRC, you entered this group with some sort of fake dialog between you and
the Harelaw "owner" that was an "invitation" to a paid-entry clave. You've
been spamming since then, so you can drop the fake indignation.

Nor should it spoil your day.

But I equate the tone of your 'you poor sensitive souls' remark to something
akin to '**** you, I don't care if my SPAM ****ed you off'. That, sir, is my
point. I hope it's taken 'on board'.

Like I said have a good holiday season and great new year - whatever your

not sure what you mean - Brian did respond at some point on an issue I had
with Kens description of Harelaw.

If the conversation has been going on recently then its nothing to do with
me. It wasn't a fake conversation though - if you think that was fake - fair
enough - I'm not going to lose sleep over that either.

re. the term sensitive - I was using it in the sense that I felt the
response to my 'spam' was a bit ott.

anyway, I'm leaving it there - I'm going to watch a Hugh Falkus vid. - far
more entertaining than having a squabble. :-)

Just for exercise, I looked up the definition of SPAM. Most included
"newsgroups" or "USENET" in their description. Here's my personal favorite
from http://www.unitedyellowpages.com/int...rminology.html :
----------
Spam (or Spamming)
An inappropriate attempt to use a mailing list, or USENET or other networked
communications facility as if it was a broadcast medium (which it is not) by
sending the same [sales pitch] message to a large number of people who
didn't ask for it. The term probably comes from a famous Monty Python skit
which featured the word spam repeated over and over. The term may also have
come from someone's low opinion of the food product with the same name,
which is generally perceived as a generic content-free waste of resources.
(Spam® is a registered trademark of Hormel Corporation, for its processed
meat product.)
----------
So, yes, you were spamming. C'mon - admit it! Confession is good for the
soul. After that, you can make a New Year's resolution to never do it again.

Holiday greetings have been flying fast and furious on ROFF. That
someone who operates a pay-to-play kiddie trout pond somewhere in
Scotland would provoke so much enmity by adding to the holiday chorus is
.... well ... funny.

Well, the rest of us didn't say "Merry Christmas I'm selling something and
will give you 20% off and a Happy New Year." Besides that, yeah, it's
identical.

Oh, and Happy New Year, Steve!

Well, unless one means "Don't let the door hit you on the way out," in
which case most people (yeah, we make exceptions for you) would say
something like, "Don't let the door hit you on the way out."

See what I mean? :)
