My new rig is ordered!!!
Well, it has happened!!!
I'm getting the FastCat C20. After talking with a couple other boat manufacturers, as well as other FastCat owners, I've decided to take the next step and get one of the little rascals. After talking with Jerry, the president of the company, I am now the Wisconsin sales rep for Fast Cat Marine and there's talk of more to come in the not too distant future! The FastCat owners that I've talked to have been more than impressed with the fishability, as well as it's rough water capability. I've been told that the storage is huge, which I need, and that they're a very comfortable, dry riding and FAST boat. We'll find out more when I get down to Miami later this month to meet with the owners of the company and to drive these little rascals. There's one boat down there that has twin 300 hp Merc's on the back and they're going to let me drive it!!! I've been told that they've hit 118 mph with it. That's something I've always wanted to do with a boat, drive into the triple digits and now I'm going to do it. How cool is that? I'm getting the boat rigged with a fair amount of cool stuff, a Merc 250 XS, Lenco Trim Tabs, stereo and all the other goodies as well. The list of goodies is fairly extensive and I'm getting the trailer upgrade as well, seeing's I put a lot of miles on a trailer. With some reservation, I'm putting a MotorGuide 105 pound thrust, 36 volt trolling motor on it as well, the digital model with depth track, shore track and that kind of stuff. I don't know if this is a good thing, but no one responded here or on the other locations that I posed the question, so I called a couple of service centers for MotorGuide. The report that I got was that this series of motors is doing very well but they all cautioned me that the more complex the motor is, the more likely it is to have something go wrong. I knew that before I ever picked up the phone! Both places said that they haven't been seeing them come in for repair for the same thing consistently, and that a lot of engineering had gone into upgrading the systems after MotorGuide bought PinPoint Trolling Motors. I loved my PinPoints, so hopefully this new TM will be as good or better. So now it's fly to Miami, run the boats and see what color I want to have them build the boat in. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

Now, I can add sales rep to the resume of firefighter/emt/haz-mat tech, guide, rod builder, writer, editor, website support, television producer, show host, husband, father, and grandfather..... One of them was the first to run a catamaran hull for racing, bringing the boat to the U.S. from England (if I remember correctly). I've been told repeatedly that the stability and smooth ride of the Fast Cat absolutely blows away a conventional boat hull. But, it does look different, which is a turn off to many of my friends. Personally, I really don't care a whole heck of a lot what people think about it, if it works as advertised, then I'll be happy. BTW, I seen a review of this boat at: http://www.bassandwalleyeboats.com/output.cfm?id=943291 ***I saw that too, and it helped in my decision. The boats come equipped with a hydraulic jackplate for shallow running. I know a lot of guys are using them as flats boats too down in the Keys. But I'll talk to them about jets. The other thing I was thinking was whether many could live without carpet (ie. commercial fishermen often do, anyone who makes a real mess in their boat after each outing) and thinking that many would still want to carpet the predominant areas where you stand to fish. ***This too is going to be a new experience for me. I've resigned myself to the fact that I had to clean acres of carpet before each guide job. This is going to be a new experience, simply hose the inside out and it's done!!! They're going to make my boat with a medium grit walking surface. I worry about cold weather and icing up, having the decks become slippery without carpet. They can use three different grits, but they told me that if we went with the coarsest, that I'd never be able to kneel in the boat wearing shorts without bloody knees! They tried to carpet the boats, but because the boat is so aerodynamic, they couldn't find a carpet adhesive that kept the rugs stuck down! Lastly, before you go down to Miami and drive that dual engine Fast Cat boat that will take you into triple digits...you might just want to get your pilot's license first...bc that light of a boat just might lift up and take-off like an airplane! ***I ain't skeered! ;-) -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

"go-bassn" wrote in message ... Steve its a veryinteresting boat indeed. You say theres plenty of storage space, I just cant understand where it could be with the tunnel hull design. I'd love to take a ride though, sounds like an awesome big water craft. Warren, I was told that it was unlikely that I'd fill all the available space. They don't know me very well. We'll find out. I know one thing that they've begun working on is a boat with a full flipping deck. Once they do this, and put additional storage under the added deck space, there'll be even more! And, they've told me that if I want, I can have the first flipping deck model to roll out the doors! Unfortunately, that won't be until 2007 and I don't think that Doc will wait that long for his boat. Everyone that I've talked to that runs one of these boats brags non-stop about how great the boat handles big, rough water and how smooth and dry it is. We'll find out when I go to Miami, and I do have some big water to run up here, Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. You're welcome to fly on out to Wisconsin anytime after I have the boat and the ice is off the lakes. I'll take you out for a test run and let you drive it too! -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

"go-bassn" wrote in message ... Awesome Steve, best of luck with your new boat! Say, does Fast Cat have a website? I know of Basscat but have never heard of fastcat. It's not the world's greatest website, but they do have one. It's at http://www.fastcatmarine.com . Actually BassCat was one of the other boat companies that I was talking to, but FastCat made me a much better offer and since I first read about FastCats in Bass & Walleye Boat magazine, I've been intrigued by the concept of a cat hull. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

"BradS" wrote in message om... Get the Merc. Verado. A buddy of mine has one on a 20' Crestliner Tournament series, I we do 60 easy. I thought about the Verado. Unfortunately they're very pricey and for resale purposes, I decided to go with a Mercury 250 XS. This way I can sell the boat to BASS/FLW type guys if I decide and not have to worry about the 250 hp restriction. I was actually considering a 275 Verado or the 300 X from Mercury, but practicality (?) reared it's ugly head. This new boat, the FastCat C20 is a 20 foot boat and I've been told I should be able to run in the mid-80's easily. 60 is my usual cruising speed. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

My new rig is ordered!!! ======= Sounds great Steve, some day I hope I have the good fortune to fish from the back of it with you! But waiting for a new toy to be delivered is tough....hope ypu can stand the anticipation :)! I ordered a new sports car while I was in Europe one time....took 3 months for it to get shipped back to the states, almost couldn't stand it! grin Congrats on the "deal"...and have fun down in Miami! John ======== (Steve*@*OutdoorFrontiers) Well, it has happened!!!

"Ken Fortenberry" wrote: Is this a fishing boat we're talking about ? I mean it's startin' to sound like the classic little red sports car of mid-life crisis fame. LOL ! ;-) Yes, this is a fishing boat we're talking about. And I suppose there might be a little mid-life crisis involved, but I don't think so. I've always been a performance nut and a bit of a speed freak. I've always had fast cars with big engines, I used to race motocross and enduro and I've just continued that with boats. But from everything I've heard and read about the boat on other sites, it's a fishing boat! OK then, fishing boat it is, but I don't know how you expect to catch fish traveling 100+ mph. :-) Sounds exciting, I hope it brings you fun and profit. My mid-life crisis consisted of two years as a trout bum in the mountains of Montana. Plenty of fun, but no profit. ;-) -- Ken Fortenberry |
