RFD: alt.flyfishing charter

Hi All,

Does anyone have or know how to get the charter for this group when it
was created. I actually sent the control message years ago and had a
charter at one time. I'd like to revisit the charter to add more
strongly the requirement of being on topic. If someone can show me how
to get the group statistics, that would be helpful as well.

Thanks very much,

TBone

You'd have to have the group "moderated."

If there is any chance of breathin' life into this dyin' horse, you suck the
last breath from it, if it were to become a moderated group!

You also have to sign-up moderators--fat chance--I'd say, as you first must
get folks to post!

Thanks Op, do you have the charter or know where I can get it as well
as the group statistics?
Thanks,

Tim

Here's some statistics on this group:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.f...ng/about?hl=en

Don't know where you'd find the charter, unless it's archived on Google.
If there even is one - this post indicates it was "being developed"...

Welcome most sincerely to alt.flyfishing. This is an unmoderated NG whose
charter as a flyfishing discussion forum is being developed and which exists
as an "ALT"ernative to the mainstream of flyfishing.

Loking forward to many great posts and discussions here.

So, what's on your mind flyfishermen ?

Thank you very, very much Daytripper.

Unless we find the charter, I'd like to vote to write a new one.

I'd suggest something like:
- alt.flyfishing an unmoderated group but with a strong charter for
staying on topic.
- posts should be strongly related to fishing or flyfishing
- anything even slightly OT should carry the requirement that an OBAF
(obligatory alt.fishing) is required.
- considerate responses, timely responses
- expectation of some contribution of all members
- novels relating to fishing, flyfishing encouraged, trip reports
encouraged
- no commercial advertising or polls, surveys by commercial venture
- fish species agnostic
- no flaming anyone for killing, or releasing, of legal fish
- common courtesy and an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect will be
observed at all times

Sincerely,

Halfordian Golfer

I know there is a charter aas I have found it before--many years ago?

That is an impossibility! The charter is like the US Constitution, its only
on paper--sort of. If there is no one to *enforce* the charter, a
moderator, nothing can be done to ensure what it is that you want.

- posts should be strongly related to fishing or flyfishing

see above

- anything even slightly OT should carry the requirement that an OBAF

"should" but good luck.

You are talking MODERATED!

Not necessarily. While there's no real authority, there can be pressure
put on people and you can report abuses. Without guidelines, however,
where do you start? I've seen excellent results in groups, such as
rec.crafts.brewing, that just hav egood, willing posters. Posters that
respond to every single post in the negative are ostracized by the
community. Anyway, it's a starting place!

What do you propose to do, when someone tells you to get ****ed--over and
over?

Tim, why do you think that ROFF has the traffic that it does? Do you not
think that if folks had not wanted to put up with what goes on there that
they couldn't have come here long ago? They haven't and it very unlikely
that they will now.

But have at it. After all, this is your ****-hole.

At least one of the reasons ROFF has the traffic it has is because of
the dilligence of the early contributors, including yours truly, that
were dedicated to getting something going there that had enough
interest to attract and retain posters.

Tim, you come and go like the seasons, only you stay away longer than you
hang around.

People hang out at ROFF for many different reasons: They like the people
they meet there, they like to get into ****ing contests, they get great
flyfishin' info, they make *REAL* friendships by going to 'claves.... This
list is by no means comprehensive and certainly not to be considered in any
certain order. However, no matter who got it going, it exist just like
alt.flyfishing, but ROFF actually has traffic and alt.flyfishing doesn't--at
least none to write home about!

TBone

Thanks,

Try google, Tim. Click on groups and then enter whatever group you
want to look at. It will give you statistics about who posts, how
often, etc.

Dave
PS Try to ignore the trolls, Tim. I know you mean well, but some of
those that don't agree with you will do their best to net assault you.
Just ignore 'em. It really ****es 'em off to be ignored, because the
only place they get attention is in newsgroups.

Statistical analysis should be fairly easy--no one gives a **** about this
NG as long as they have ROFF!
