New bass boat I hope...fingers crossed!
I put a refundable hold deposit on it and will test drive in a week from
Saturday to see if I want it. It is a new 2005 Lowe 160W. I think the price is VERY good price at $11,999. It is a new boat, from a dealer, and all warranty's apply from purchase date. My research has found that most 16 footers of equal build and motor will run at least 14,999 to 16,999. It has the 50 hp E-Tec. What do you think? I am a bit excited I found this. Well Shred, I have not been in a Lowe, but Cabela's down the road in Dundee, MI sells these boats like hotcakes. I don't know where you live, but in SE Mich, this would be a perfect inland lake boat. I have a 16.5 Smokercraft which is the virtual twin of your boat and I could not be happier with it. Easy to tow, easy to get in and out of the water by yourself, roomy enough for partners, what else do you need? |

I put pics over at ABPF also.

Just looked at one on-line. Looks awfully nice. I hope you have many years
with less than average minor troubles of any boat. Take me fishing. -- Bob La Londe Fishing Arizona & The Colorado River Fishing Forums & Contests http://www.YumaBassMan.com -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

0 hp E-Tec. What do you think? I am a bit excited I found this. For my money, a 50 to 70HP, 16 to 17-1/2 foot aluminum is about the perfect bass boat for any of us who don't fish the major trails. I've had the big, fast boats, and the small, one-step-above-a-cartopper boats. Caught plenty of fish out of all of them, but I can't say I've every enjoyed a boat as my current one (17.5 foot, 50HP alum). You'll love it. Lowe's got a good rep, and this size boat is practical and convenient. Enjoy it! |

The only thing I didn't see were the bunks supporting the transom. It's probably a simple adjustment but since there is so much weight there, you need to make sure it's supported. I would also get a transom saver bracket as added insurance. Enjoy! Dan |

I know a transom saver goes from the trailer to the bottom of outboard to support the weight. |

"SHRED" wrote in message SNIP I am new to boating. What are "bunks"? I know a transom saver goes from the trailer to the bottom of outboard to support the weight. Bunks are carpeted planks on the trailer, usually 2x4 or 2x6 pressure treated lumber. They are on the trailer and they're what the boat sits on. A boat's transom should have about an inch of bunk sticking out after it's properly snugged up against the bow stop. There is a lot of weight on the transom and when the boat is going down the road, that weight is constantly working on the stern of the boat. By having the bunks out beyond the stern of the boat, and having a transom saver, you're taking a lot of strain off the back end of the boat. If this isn't the case, usually it's a fairly simple matter to adjust the bow stop so that the boat's hull is fully supported. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

Aluminum and copper do not go together. Make sure you do not drop pieces of copper wire into the bottom of the boat when adding electronics or drop pennies onto the floor. |

Hey Shred. don't post here much, but just wanted to say, I have the exact same boat, only a 2004, and blue with tan rather than red, and I have a 50hp Yamaha instead of a 'rude. So far I love the boat, no real complaints at all, except that I had to set up the trailer a bit myself (the dealer had the bunks kinda screwy). I also ditched the Huminbird Piranha, but only because I had a color Lowrance anyway. All in all it is a great 'little' boat, and rides very well. with my 50hp, I can eek out almost 40, but I haven't checked the prop pitch or fiddled with different trim settings. |
