as a consequence of my tenure here, i've been fortunate to meet and
develop personal relationships with some very fine and enjoyable people;
i've learned a lot; i've visited new places made more comfortable and
welcoming by someone whose name i first encountered here, who before the
visit was a stranger; i've enjoyed a lot of good laughs; and, i've read
some facinating things along with a load of tripe. you well know, some
things can't be changed. those who have made the effort, who frequent
other internet fishing sites, and who are conscientious in their review
and consumption of fishing info know the wheat from the chaff.

As it happens, I did not know. I have not followed ROFF very closely
for quite a long time. I look in occasionally,and read a few posts,
but that is all. However, it does not surprise me in the least.

Many of the old regulars are gone as far as I can see, and there are
not many posts at all, even fewer about fishing. I agree with what you
say to a great extent, although I did at one time expect far too much
from this group, and made it too important to myself. That was a
serious mistake.

I now participate in and contribute to a number of boards etc, where
they stick to fishing, behave themselves, and it is pleasant and
interesting. This place is now just depressing and irritating.

Fortenberry is a major cause of the decline. His ignorance and abuse
has touched everybody, even those not directly attacked. As you say,
there is presumably not much to be done about it, but I will
nevertheless continue to refute his lies.
