GFS2007 - tragic update

I have learned this morning that one of our swappers has just suffered the
loss of his 21-yr-old son. He has informed me that a friend will be
completing his flies (a more meaningless commitment at this time I can't
imagine, but...); and consequently, he will be a bit late in getting his
flies to me. I will hold the swap pending those flies.

Geez Joe...that's terible. My sincere condolences go out to whomever this
may be. Getting a bunch of Swap Flies at a time like this is meaniless.
Please tell whoever is tying those flies to either not bother; or take as
long as needed. Truly sad.

Indeed. I hate to be unnecessarily cryptic; but inasmuch as the email to me
did not specifically give the nod to post even as much as I did, I'd as soon
err on the side of privacy. That said, my impression is that he is not (nor
would I expect him to be) frequently checking his email at this time, or I
would tell him that exactly.

A place like roff is no place to be posting tragic news of a
personal nature. The father will send email or arrange to have
email sent to those from roff he wants to contact.

Please pass on my condolences. Yes it is appropriate to post this. As some
people do care and can relate because of personal losses them selves .And
respecting their privacy is just fine too.

My condolences also, although I don't know who we are talking about, I
certainly (as all of us do) understand the sadness of loss. Losing
someone so young is horriffic.

I agree that posting here is not inappropriate, but in many ways, its
possibly unwise. If someone is in deep need of support or
encouragement, then its quite risky and even foolhardy to look for it
online, ROFF or otherwise. On the other hand, friendships here are
quite often real friendships IRL, and posting here is just another way
to discuss something in the open.

I, for one, found a great deal of support from this group when my son
nearly killed himself in his snowboarding accident three years ago on
Valentine's Day. He was overwhelmed when I put all the well wishes
together in one document and printed it for him. The fact that such
great support came from all over the globe was no small matter for him
or me. My guess is that our unnamed comrade will appreciate the well
wishes. Yeah, this place can be a bit rough at times, but sure wasn't
when it really mattered to me.

So bite me, ROFF. ;-)

Send along my condolences. It's tough to lose a kid, even a grown one
and 21 isn't really full grown by my elderly standards.
