OT I need a fishin' trip
It's been a bad news, good news day. I spent the entire
afternoon surrounded by lawyers one of whom represented me and the other who represented the insurance company of the criminal incompetents who killed my daughter. It was not a pleasant afternoon having to relive a painful episode I'd just as soon forget. But it's settled. The good news; when I got home the man in the brown truck had left six bottles of wine on my doorstep ! The Wine Garage Intense Red Wine Club, April 2007 edition. A Barbera, a Petite Sirah, a Rhone blend, a Syrah and two Zinfandels. If you live in a state where you can get wine deliveries from California I highly recommend the Wine Garage http://www.winegarage.net/ It's like Xmas, six times a year ! Well, this has been a looming presence on the calendar for awhile and I'm glad it's over. Now it's time to go fishin'. I think I'm gonna tie up some big uglies and see if I can't fool a Lake Kinkaid musky into thinking it's a gizzard shad. -- Ken Fortenberry |

I remember this It was about the time I first started interacting w ROFF It was heart wrenching! But man, you can be a bit nuts at times - but I can also! I do hope that you take some time to go fishing Don't take Dick Cheney with you. Sincerely Fred |

The near seal lever part where the small mouth abound. One hundred fish days are possible, A lot of smaller fish but never boaring. There are a number of wineries around Roseburg and that part of Oregon. I take the main squeeze, she likes to sit in the sun and read while I fish. The condition for her company is that we take in 2 or 3 wineries in the afternoon when it's to hot to fish anyway. I can't recall the name of it but the oldest winery in Oregon is nearby. Last year we bought some Ice Wine. This year I'm buying more. I don't know where it fits in with the wine snobs but it's pretty good. But then again I like Raspberry wine. |

She likes photography and I like trout fishing so it's easy enough to arrange because trout hang out in some really beautiful and photogenic places. We've signed up for a bunch of "Wine Clubs", some of which I like and some of which I'd just as soon she cancelled. We get Ridge (woo hoo !!), Ferrari-Carrano (OK), Hop Kiln (OK), Bonny Doon (I swear if those crazy mother****ers ever send us another bottle of Bouteille Call I'll cancel it myself, wife be damned ;-), and Wine Garage (my fave). Living here in corn country it's nice to get California wines in the mail every so often but we're not sophisticated oenophiles, just winos. ;-) -- Ken Fortenberry |

One year, one of the host at one of the Wineries got sick, so the gal in our party took over. They let her have at it, she was filling our glasses with the expensive cabs...pretty wild. Every year we head down to the Paso Robles Great Western Bike Rally at the end of May (Memorial Day Weekend). Lots of wine tours, and then make your way to Cambria on the coast for the famous ollieberry pie at Linn's bakery. One of the best in the world! Quite a few bead and breakfast there as well. enjoy, -tom |

It's made from grapes that have hung on the vine utill there frozen. There squezzed when frozen so the ice ( water ) stays with the leaves, etc. The resulting grape juice is sweeter and the wine is sweeter etc. I guess it come in various varieties. I know it comes in smaller expensive bottles. Good desert wine. Like I said I'm not a snob. Willamette Vinyards makes a sparkling muscat that is also a good desert wine. They also do a good reisling that we go throug a case of a year. |

We've done that and enjoyed it, but we're nowhere near connoisseurs. Actually we preferred the Sonoma Valley for quality of restaurants and winery tours. Korbel does a great job and is a gorgeous place but our favorite was Topolos in Forestville. Too bad they're going out of business. They were my favorite wine club too and they made famous the LOPT, the Loyal Order of the Purple Tongue. ;-) We like to visit the wine country whenever we're in the Bay Area. Unfortunately all our friends who moved to the Bay Area have one by one moved back to Chicago. Somewhere in there is a story of some sort. -- Ken Fortenberry |

Cool, I'll try most anything once. We'll have it with dessert one night and then I'll find something in our cellar that I think you might like and send it to you. I promise not to send Bonny Doon's Bouteille Call. ;-) -- Ken Fortenberry |

I'll pass that on to our friends. Yes, the Sonoma Valley has a variety of good restaurants. The Bed & Breakfast are very popular today, most of the time you have to book far in advance. Bev and I have met the nicest people at the B&B's, we never stay in motels anymore. We also enjoy the home style cooking that they provide. I think the people who attend the B&B's go out of their way to make good company. -tom |

Ken - I'm sorry that this thread got its start for such a sad reason, but I'm happy that you're enjoying your wine and are thinking about a fishing trip. I hope everyone is thinking about a fishing trip . . . My buddies and I are getting out this weekend for a two-night backpack for some Appalachian brookies. I just got back from the state store with a bottle of Lagavulin, printed out my temporary non-resident license on the computer, looked over my 2007 order of flies from Harry Murray, admired my new Cabela's wading booties (the old pair is finally being retired), and can't wait to hit the road tomorrow after a short stop at work. I think we're going to be blessed with nice weather, hopefully it'll be warm enough to get things going on top. |

I'm glad to finally have all that in the past and I thought it was delicious kismet to have a half dozen bottles of interesting wine waiting for me at home when I finished up with the unpleasantness. And yeah, I'm really looking forward to a few days on Lake Kinkaid. In a concession to impending geezerhood and the requirements of musky fishing I've put a little 4 stroke 2 HP Honda putt-putt on my old Grumman canoe. This trip will be the new putt-putt's maiden voyage. My buddies and I are getting out this weekend for a two-night backpack for some Appalachian brookies.
