Penns Creek Clave..

Anyone coming in early?

So far it sounds like most aren't coming in til Sunday, but drop me a line
if you'll be around and we'll get a tour or two in.

Will be up this Thursday the 17th to get a head start, staying til dark on
the 26th (unless exhaustion sets in before then). Staying in a Hemlock
cabin first few nights in then either a tent, or, downstream depending on
availability.

Have a few friends that I haven't fished with in a while that I will meet up
with on Tuesday/Wednesday during the Clave including Bruce over at Penns
Creek Angler if he can tear himself away from the shop.

Reports are good. Stream is near perfect level and fishing good. Expect
the usual suspects, and don't forget the spinners, we will be in prime time
spinner fall territory. If the temps persist we should have some good early
morning fishing opportunities too, so rest up...and pull me out of the tent
before you head out.

Mike

Don't know when Handyman is getting there, so might have to throw up

I'm going leave here Friday and stay the night somewhere in Ohio.
There is no way I'll make the 1052 miles in one day. 20 years ago,
maybe, but now I need my beauty rest. Be puking tents half way across
the country.
When you getting there Mike (Handyman type)?

I'll be around. I would say Axelrod stretch but Joel's not coming in til
Sunday, are we allowed in that water before he shows?

I'll be in one of the new cabins til Saturday morning. Just saw a forecast,
70's for a few days leading into weekend. Most likely I'll be heading out
real early Saturday to fish at dawn and then crawling back to find a place
to rest before the Evening hatch? I'll have scouted Ingleby by then so
we'll know if that is the place to be or not. If the sulfurs are heavy up
into the Coburn trestle the run between there and Stan's may also be fine.
Check with Rudi too, if I run into him along the way I'll let him know where
I'm heading.

Are you brewing the stew? any idea when? If the weather stays above
average I'm thinking an afternoon gig would be a good twist. Or after dark.
The action may very well be a bit more concentrated then most years.
Morning, and evening, hatches.

Should be quite an event this year, have good vibes...

The Finn

Frank if you need a place to stay for the night I have room down at
the apartments for you.
Also heres the creek report: March Browns are on strong with Gray Fox.
Tan Caddis and Green Caddis are on the down turn. I saw and caught
fish on a #16 Sulphur tonight, so the main hatch is about 5 days away.
My prediction is an early Green Drake. Water is at a good level, 500
cfs compared to the standard 300 cfs but it makes it fun crossing the
creek. Frank call the shop if you want a stop over, its free for you.
You can give me a few flies and we will call it even... Mike I would
like to fish with you on Wed (my only day off) so lets do it.

yourself. Stop if you want, you are welcome. Ps: I fish after work
every night, 6pm till dark. Tonight was a super spinner fall of MB's &
Ginger Quills. The Sulphurs hatched from 6pm till past dark... It was

I can't tell you how much I'm going to miss this trip. It sucked last year
to be so sick that I couldn't risk wading, and this year I'm actually
feeling like I could handle Ingleby and Joel's favorite stretch.

The marinated asparagus were from Smilin' Joe, Scooter's friend from
upstate. Maybe he'll share someday - I ate plenty of those over the years.
I think a quick blanching and then a quick cool down, followed by a bath in
some olive oil, garlic and a decent vinegar would do the trick. It doesn't
need anything fancy. The local stuff just appeared at roadside stands last
week.

I'll try to corner Smiling Joe on this tonight!

All my seniors, who I've been advising for four years, are gradyating on
Sunday, and I need to be there. Joe will be on the Cape, wading himself
into silly situations.
