Profile Plates -- anybody use one?

I've been having some issues with my eyes lately so thought I'd add a
profile plate to my tying desk in hopes that will help a little. I've
found three choices:

1. Make my own
2. Dyna King's profile plate (square, about 5.75" square)
3. HMH's profile plate (square, about 6" square)

I haven't seen any in person, just photos. Can anyone comment on the
Dyna King or HMH? The HMH appears to be much less expensive. I don't
know if the price difference reflects quality or not. At this point,
I'm leaning towards buying rather than making -- merely because I'm
strapped for "free" time and have other projects that are higher
priority.

Thanks in advance for any info or input.

Same here, coat hanger, clip and a sheet of closed cell foam 1/8" thick.
I can change color according to tying I'm doing. Foam sheet are 4 for a
buck here. Close cell foam is a very good material to tye interesting
flies for Bass or Crappies.

Foam would certainly be easy to use. Do you find the foam to reduce
glare enough? The white closed cell foam I've used is rather shiny.
Are they all that way?

I got some matte board from a frame shop. I got a couple of diffrent
colors, best part is it was FREE. The framers use the outter edges for
the frames and the center often gets discarded. Nice stuff. Glare is
no problem (dull finish) and stiff enought for lots of service.

If your foam is shiny, I suspect its coated with something. Of all the
colors I have they are all matte. Got them when Treasure Island closed
down.

BTW, I shoot with ambient light only to avoid any glare whatsoever.
This may be an option for you. I would disable your flash, use a
tripod, stop down as much as you can aperture-wise, and use timer or
remote transmitter to eliminate motion blur.

Thanks C&R. I'm not planning to use it for photos. Others introduced
that topic. My original question and intent is to provide a backdrop
that's easy on the eyes for tying.

The matte board is a good idea.

I had more involved solutions in mind (I guess more like the commercial
products). That's why I was figuring on time, but I'll spend a couple
of minutes with a coat hanger and some board and see where I get.

I use one - I have a Dyna-King plate ( blue ).

Helps if your background is normally "busy"
Provides a backdrop to photo against

I bought a sheet of blue-gray craft paper and put it in an 8x10
plastic slide in picture frame. Total cost about $4.oo

Would you or anyone else, by chance, have a picture of the completed
wire and foam profile plate? Would like to see how it was constructed.
Sounds much easier and less expensive than the commercial ones
available
