This has brought to my mind the fragility and shortness of life, health and strength. It's also motivated me to try and put aside the "I can'ts" and make the efforts needed to do more of the things I want to do before I'm no longer able. (snip a bunch of good plans) Care to share your daydreams? Willi I tried to put aside the "I can't" syndrome starting last January. I resolved to take a multi-day fishing trip in each month of the year as a minimum. I did pretty well on keeping my resolution and had a blast. I haven't made plans for the whole year yet, but my wish list includes.... A few trips to the Owens/Kern through April (only open waters nearby) A trip in May to the Smokies (Watch out, Hillbillies!) June ???? The western clave in July August in the Sierras or the Olympic peninsula September and October in the Sierras The San Juan in December. Danl |

Smokies, Graham, and Macon County NC in May or June. I want to go up S-bird creek to where it is just over the ridge from the headwaters of the Tellico River, then go over land to the Tellico. That might be a very difficult trip, and would probably involve bushwhacking through the woods for a piece. Been there once before, but came in from another direction that involved a long 4-wheel drive and a locked gate. Damned hard to get to and real pretty brookie water. Wouldn't hurt to spend a few days on other creeks in the general area, either. Bob |

I don't know about it from a fly fishing point of view, but the Tellico is a very rich source of archaeological information pertaining to the Indians of the Archaic period. The Tellico is host to 23 excavated sites, with ten of them clusters around the Blount/Monroe county area, and the Loudon/Blount Counties area, just south of highway 411. SWMBO has a high school reunion then, so I'm gonna go along and flail about on the water while she hangs out with her old friends. Besides that, I'm hoping to get to the Smokies some time, and if time/money permit, I want to go back to the Yellowstone area, maybe staying closer to the Henry's Fork area this time. In the meantime, they will be putting some manufactured trout in the river at the end of this week, so I guess I'll have to be content with fishing the Guadalupe River to close out this year. And bass and bluegill season isn't that far away. Chuck Vance |
