To paraphrase some lyrics from the Grateful Dead, "sometimes

it today.

Really?

"Obama has shown that he is a man of limited experience, questionable
convictions, deeply troubling associations (Jeremiah Wright, William
Ayers, Tony Rezko) and an alarming lack of self-definition -- do you
really know who he is and what he believes? "

I admit, looks like your team is going to win this year, but I
wouldn't be happy about who you picked.

From Krauthammer's perspective all that is true but Krauthammer's
"convictions" are a little to the right of Benito Mussolini's so
naturally he's going to believe a moderate liberal has questionable
convictions. The rest of that paragraph is little more than wingnut
talking points, hell there's not a single member of the Illinois
Senate who doesn't have "troubling associations", that's Illinois
politics. And if anyone wants to know what Obama believes all they
have to do is read one or both of his books.

I admit, looks like your team is going to win this year, but I
wouldn't be happy about who you picked.

Well, we usually have to pick a politician and politicians are
always suspect by their very nature, but as politicians go I'm
quite happy with Obama-Biden. But if the Dalai Lama ever runs
for POTUS I'd be happy with that pick too. ;-)

Yeah, that jumped out at me, too, but hey, if Ken says he nailed it,
then he must have nailed it...and yeah, he nailed it...the only question
is if the US voter will care...

I admit, looks like your team is going to win this year, but I

You may admit it, but it doesn't look to be accurate. Looking at some
complete numbers (Barr, Nader, etc.) and full poll results, currently
Obama leads by about 4% nationally and a fair number of states are
polling toss-ups. The debate last night is beginning to show up in
early data, and it looks better for McCain/Palin than Obama/Biden (but
both look to do OK). It's looks like Monday might have things back to
about even in the polls. And, no, I'm not suggesting that McCain is
going to win, either - it's just too close, nationally and state-level.
IAC, the polls are little more than trending data. About all that can
be said is that one of them is probably going to win...and a whole lot
more people are gonna lose...

I'm freezing my tooshie off up here. Caught some gorgeous little
brookies in the UP on the last day of trout season and some smallies
since then. No muskie yet but I'm still here. The weather didn't
run me off but it did run me into town. There was snow in the forecast
last night. I'm doing some laundry this morning and I'll go muskie
fishing this afternoon. We'll head back to Urbana sometime next week.

The pup is doing great, she thinks she's Kaylin "Wild Dog Do Bad"

town rules, but we're working on it. She'll turn six months old on
Monday.

Heading up to northern Maine first thing in the a.m. Got my merino

Good. She'll come around I am sure. Jenny is still eating and
thankfully passing socks. If it is small enough and not nailed down,
she will eat it. She ate Jo's Omega watch last week. Strap and

I find myself struggling with this concept of having a leader who I

but in my entire adult life, with the exception of Robert Kennedy's
short lived run in '68 (and I was only 15 then), I've always seen the

this time. Geez, I'm too old for this. I was a real "Don't follow

Actually, the wing-nut 527s have been running pretty much every piece of
discredited garbage they can come up with, particularly in Florida, for the
last couple of weeks. Fat lot of good it's done them - over the couple of

Uh, I believe you just answered your own question. Inexperienced
nobody. Works for me. He talks a *great* game, but he's dirtier than
a dirt road. Little is said about his "mentors*, or about Raines and
others who took tens of millions from FM and FrMac and are now working
for him. The company he keeps, past and present, smells of greed,
lies, socialism, etc. McCain may not be the perfect candidate, but he
is all we have right now. Again the Dems have outdone themselves.
First Gore (in a contest that should have been a sweep), Kerry (in
another contest that should have been a sweep), and now a nobody with
no experience *whatsoever* (in a contest that should have been a
sweep). We shouldn't even be *discussing* who is going to win. The
Dem candidate should have been a shoo-in this time around what with
the umpopularity of Bush. Perhaps it is the even more unpopular Dem
Congress that is causing the close contest.

I make out either way. Obama wins: Jo retires (yahoooo!) and the
expected suicide watches across the country are cancelled. McCain
wins: another Republican in the WH.

Besides, it ain't gonna matter much who wins. Trust me. It ain't
gonna matter.

Perhaps. But how is one to evaluate an evidently sincere attempt at a
truthful factual statement from one who has provided so few examples over
the course of several years?

You have convinced
yourself and perhaps a few others that you are some brilliant star in a
world of mere incandescent lamps when you are nothing but a waning moon,
a lifeless, barren speck of dust, oh-so-close but never quite in contact
with the lively little planet you are doomed to orbit until it is your
time to expire, as meekly as you have lived, in a cosmic event over
which you have no control or real understanding.

Oh my, what a lovely metaphor! But it isn't quite clear whether you
consider my anticipated demise to be a cosmic event in and of itself which,
though highly flattering, is laying it on a bit thick, I think, or merely
the result of one that is rapidly approaching, which leads one, quite
naturally, to wonder what you know that you aren't telling the rest of us.
In any case, the premise stated early in this poetic flight, to the effect
that I've enjoyed some success in convincing myself and/or others of one
thing or another, has little to support it.....or at least very little that
I've been made aware of.

You shed no light and
produce nothing, and you never will because you simply haven't the
material to do so.

Pretty much what I've been saying about you here for a number of years.
Readers will decide for themselves, as you have. But there's the rub. You
don't believe what you just wrote......or much of the other crap that has
preceded it over the years......so why should anyone else?

You are nothing more than a target for whatever
illumination might wander your way.

A target for illumination. Hm..... A worthy goal. More than I ever
aspired to.

Oh, to be sure, I freely admit that I do look at such objects on
occasion,

Noblesse oblige.

but it is only for my own purposes,

Unlike the vast constellation of everything else you do, huh?

knowing full well that the
information gleaned from doing so is not provided by the object itself
because it cannot provide even its own illumination...it is nothing more
than a sad, waning little Chihuahua moon...

ouch. Love hurts.

dicklet will never tell you so, but it sure is a great relief to him that
you came along with your well-reasoned arguments and your own special brand
of insight into profoundly human conduct.
