Any ROFFians need bucktail or deer hair?
With hunting season upon us, I have a few extra tails and a fair amount
of hair. Does anyone need any? If you want it "au natural," it's free...if you want me to process it for you, it's $1000.00USD a tail and $1000.00 a sq, in. - IOW, it's free, you process it. I'll freeze and microwave it to kill (hopefully) any critters, but you'll need to bone out the tails and tan the hide. Actually, if I have the time and inclination, I might split and bone the tails _only_ while I'm doing my own, but please do not expect it. Let me know via email, R |

"DaveS" wrote Ditto. I have some mountain beaver (cured) trapped in the Olympic Mtns . . . I learned a lot about Beavers this summer as I fished Poindexter Slough. It is a lovely spring creeky few miles of water that is suffering badly from the effects of their damn damming ( and dewatering and ag- silt from locals that don't give a **** ). In an area with the Beaverhead bringing in billions of anglers to play bumper boat fly fishers and the Big Hole doing likewise, Poindexter seems to have few local friends even though it has the potential to equal Silver Creek or the Paradise Valley creeks in quality. I tried to get the local fly shops interested in starting a "Friends of Poindexter" organization, would do so myself if I felt I could effectively from such a distance. TIE more flies with Beaver fur ... buy the fur from Dillion, Mt. trappers !!! g |

Dave Dave, Is that Mountain Beaver as in Boomer (Aplodontia rufa) or Beaver as in Bucky Beaver (Castor canadensis). I'm sure that most roffians (ala Larry's response), or most people not from West of the Cascades in OR, WA or BC, assume you are talking about the latter beast and have no idea what a Mountain Beaver (aka locally as Boomer) is. If you are talking about Boomer skins, I'd like a patch. I have plenty of Beaver patches. Bob Weinberger ** Posted from http://www.teranews.com ** |

He began fishing it with his father many years ago. I have seen many pictures, and it looks like a great place to fish. He has mentioned the problems there as well. His first name is Marty, in case you might have run into him. |

Here's my week there last summer ( I fished other places too ;-) http://www.kimshew.com/flyfish/displ...php?log_id=339 One thing I noticed was that ALL the people I ran into fishing the creek were from ' far, far, away' .... none locals ... they float the Beaverhead, literally bow to stern at times so one could walk from boat to bobber to boat This was my second trip to Dillion, the first about 5 years ago. Poindexter had gone way down hill in that 5 years ( mostly all years of near record drought, I should add ) but it could be a truly world class dry fly fishery. Sadly, the fly shops all treat it with little respect since their big "Hire a fi$h pimp and hi$ boat from u$" income lies elsewhere and Poindexter only appeals to real anglers not the boat and bobber set G |

I later decided that the tiny 'Tricos' mentioned were actually probably Caenis hatching from nearby standing water areas apparently dug out to provide earth for overpasses. The Spinners were falling on the creek but I'm nearly certain they weren't being hatched there and, as mentioned, were Caenis not Tricos I never got around to changing my report after collecting some samples and comparing them to my traveling collection of entomology references .... I tap out the report each day ( well most, some never make it ) on my laptop but almost never go back and edit for badly grammar, wrong speilling or bug errors |

His passion is dry fly fishing, and he mainly fishes "The Slough" during the PMD hatch. He does fish other streams in the area, but The Slough is by far his favorite. |

Can not send brain material or any spinal material. |

I'll try. I don't think they are protected. In fact they are considered a pest in most areas here because they go after tree seedlings. But then so does Buckey, as the Ponderosa seedlings on my place in Dayton attest. I am not the best source on the tying Q's as some can affirm :-) but . . . Its kind of a cross between muskrat and squirrel. I use it for dubbing my crude little nymphs. Fair amount of guard hair. Belly from whitish to light grey/Brown. Back dark brown and grey. Very buggy. Easy to pick out. I got it from an old guy up on the Olympic peninsula, and I will never use it up so . . . . Dave |

Dave I have several similar items .... a full Muskrat skin, a full Fox Squirrel skin, several full Hare's masks .... I could go on .... several times the amount I can possibly use One of my most used flies is a Trusty Musky ... aka Muskrat and Partridge ..... I tie them 2 or three dozen at a time, several times a year ( I make no effort to prolong their lives, often tossing rather than drying and reusing ) .. At the current rate I use about 1.6372 sq inch of Muskrat / year .... how many years will a whole skin last ??? G |
