I was not the only one up there. I really did not expect to be after the nice weather we have been experiencing. I am looking forward to 2 days on the Arkansas River later this month before the Caddis maddness starts. graphicjak |

Any hatches, any takes, any fish? -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) I saw a few fish, but that is about it. The water was very low and clear, I was being lazy and not very stealthy, plus the water was being worked over pretty good by all the fisherman up there. I did not see any hatches or rises but once again I was being lazy. graphicJAK Denver, CO |

"DaveS" wrote in message ... Seriously, who is fishing? Where? For what? Dave I get out locally once a week or so ... catch a few fish, sometimes Thankfully we're getting some rain lately ( we're still in drought and forced into severe water rationing ) and my local river has been running muddy. So, I may go troll a LarryBugger ( a pattern designed to suggest the important pre-emergent stage of the Wooley Bugger ;-) around a local stocked lake tomorrow. |

Love the Platte. I only live 2 miles away. Unfortunately, 3 miles away it dumps into the Missouri. Frank Reid |

The tailwater sections of streams fish well all year round. It is worth bringing your gear if you can find time to spend on the river. As for recommended flies it depends on the stream you plan to fish. Here is what Pat Dorsey recommends as effective patterns for the Platte this time of year: Midges and midges and... #22-24 Mercury Flashback RS II, #22 Mercury Flashback Black Beauty, #18-22 Mercury Blood Midge, #22-24 Medallion Midge, #18 Mercury Cased Caddis, #20-26 Top Secret Midge, #16 Flash Tail Hot Egg, #16 Nuclear Egg, #20-22 Mercury Black Beauty, #18-22 Mercury Red Pheasant Tails, #18-20 Rainbow Warrior, #18-22 Mercury Flashback Pheasant Tail, #22-24 Mercury Baetis, #20-22 Sparkle Dun, #20-26 Parachute Adams, #20-22 Cannon's Midge Cluster, #24 Stalcup's Trico, #22 Snowshoe Duns, and #20-22 Griffith Gnats. I'm a bit old fashioned I suppose. My son is wintering over in Dillon and I suggested he leave some snowboarding junk behind and make some space in his car for a rod & gear but he didn't. I received an "Uh Oh. I shoulda" call shortly after he arrived and saw folks fishing the Blue. He was there well before the snow and had plenty of time then to fish though it may be a bit out of his league. It looks like a very nice stream and he could learn a lot from it. I really appreciate the list and will begin to accumulate/tie some of the flies you suggested. From the still excited calls I get from him it appears just this one winter there is not about to get Colorado out of his system. Many thanks Kiyu |

I may get out Sunday since I'll be near the spring fed rivers in the far western part of the state that day. Around our house the rivers are pretty much ice covered with narrow chutes of running water. |

I'll fish back home in the middle of winter for steelhead and 14+" wild trout, but not for what they've got around here. Stay warm. - JR |

Thanks, but not looking likely right now. I just took a bunch of vacation and am saving some more, hoping to make it to Penns, end of may. You may see me down there during trout season, though. - JR |

"DaveS" wrote in message ... Seriously, who is fishing? Where? For what? Dave I fished the Green River a few days starting last Thursday. Fishing was average, small midge patterns (#22 - #26), it we weren't casting to pods, we were slow stripping streamers/buggers. Overall I would rate the catching about a 5.5 on a scale of 1 - 10. The fishing, camaraderie, etc. was a 10. Great for breaking cabin fever. Next trip will be on the Bitterroot the end of the month. JT |
