Penn's report
Time had arrived, last Wednesday, to open Clave Central for the season.
Accompanied by Handyman Mike Shaw, and the Finn(Mike Makela), and with a couple cameo appearances by Bruce Fisher, we started off the Penn's trout season. In a 5 day period marked by a range of temps between 34 and 91 degrees, we saw a tremendous amount of Grannom Caddis, smaller Black Caddis, Blue Quills, Quill Gordons and Hendricksons. What we DIDN'T see were rising trout. Most all fish caught were subsurface, with deep nymphs, streamers and wet flies the only sources of angling success, and those successes were pretty limited. At any rate, we all had a blast, including my little dog Teddy, who needed a weekend in the woods. Trout aplenty await at Penn's. We foolishly did not try other local streams(I suspect both Big Fishing and Spring Creeks would have fished better), but are ready to welcome all to Penns Creek late in May! Tom |

"W. D. Grey" wrote in message ... As a mater of interest when you refer to caddis do you mean the cased caddis larva or the Adult sedge fly? we generally refer to the whole life-cycle as Caddis, Bill. When Bruce was speaking of Tan Caddis hatch starting, the tan net-spinning caddis is pupating and about to go through their adult phases. For surface(or near-surface) anglers, this means fishing to hatching and egg-laying adults. Tom |

We generally refer to Caddis when they are cased in either bits of debris or gravel. * Penns clave cooking shall henceforth be known as a caddis. The adults are known as sedges of one type or another. Naw, thats a grass. Two countries separated by a common language. :-) Frank Reid |
