CBC was reporting on the "beer summit" that Obama hosted. The article is at:

http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2009/0...9.html?ref=rss

Apparently, the Mass. governor wanted him to serve Sam Adams, however...

"Obama opted for a Bud Lite, made by Anheuser-Busch...."

No wonder Fortenberry likes the guy so much.

Besides, there's nothing quite like ordering: "Waitress, I'd like

Of course.
I usually stock Henry Weinhard'ss (Hef, Blondie, reserve, Blue Boor
etc.) Reasonably priced, cheap, in cases. Then there are also the Hood
River beers, Full Sail, Fat Tire etc, Seattle's Ballard labels, etc.
Of the Mexicans I like Pacifico out of Mazatlan, and Modelo Negro.
None of these cost a fortune. All are good and all use NW hops (As
does Bud by the way), and barley or wheat. The giant hop yards South
of Yakima, Wa, supply brewers worldwide. But the locals get the best
and use the most, a good thing if you like to taste the hops that is.

While vacationing on the Or. coast a couple weeks ago, my bride dropped me
off at the Rogue Brewery. She and the kids had some additional shopping that
I couldn't take any longer. The brewery sits just off the Newport Marina. I
thought I was in heaven, window open, cool ocean breeze, boats of all sizes
and shapes passing by while I sipped a cold brew... After a couple pints I
went down and chatted with some fisherman that were participating in the
Tuna Classic. Appeared to be a big deal, there were people from all over,
Sitka, AK. was the furthest I saw. The coast calls my name in the retirement
years.

I took a real liking to the Rouge American Amber Ale... I didn't know it at

FWIW, the Mexican beer you get in the US is nothing like the real stuff. In
fact, most of the imported "beer" in the US is different than what it is in its
country of origin - Guinness, for example (unfortunately). OTOH, if you like

At least a few years ago the most popular beer in Ireland was Bud. And
I was recently surprised how popular Corona (Mex) is in London. I
don't notice any difference in the Pacifico or Modelo I drink in
Mexico vs the US. But I am no connoisseur. If they change it to suit
US tastes, I also expect es possible que ellos lo cambian para
diferente partes de Mejico, no? Es un grande pais, no?

too many years ago, walt winter and i fished the grandfather mountain
watershed streams monthly. i'd always have a cooler filled with ice in
the back of my truck, into which we placed at least two six-packs of
beer, a different sampling each trip. we usually got the beer at a
specialty beer shop in boone, or at lowes foods in Linville (which had
an incredible beer and wine selection), so the variety of beer we
sampled was excellent. we agreed that the rogue brewery honey creme ale
was the best of it all. ...and cottonwood indian pale ale and some
french beer (i have repressed the traumatic memory of) were the worst.

rogue quit wholesaling the honey creme ale, so i can't get it anymore.
i think you can only get it at the brewery, or near there, now. a
shame...

I was at a dinner party last night honoring Joanne in her retirement.
A dear old friend sat next to me and was drinking what she called a
Rusty Dog. It had three parts dry Vermouth and one part Drambui, on
the rocks. It was very good. The Vermouth cut the overly sweet
Drambui and made it a very nice sipping drink.

Who's talking about getting drunk, you fool?

You obviously don't know what is in a Rob Roy. I said "dry" Vermouth.
A Rob Roy is made with French or sweet Vermouth. Big difference.
Ain't no Drambuie in a Rob Roy. What she had was strickly a sipping
drink, something you might have before or after dinner. Definitely not
in the Rob Roy/Manhatten style of drinks. It was good. Had a good
taste and I doubt you could even get a buzz on with two or three of

Hence, the use of "variant"...IAC, fairly common "Rob Roy" variants do call for
dry vermouth, a mix of dry and sweet, and the addition of Drambuie...and all are
just as big a waste of Scotch...

Also, "French vermouth" is not synonymous with "sweet vermouth" as there are a
number of dry French vermouths, such as Noilly Prat.

What she had was strickly a sipping
drink, something you might have before or after dinner.

Er, no, it is not something I might have before or after dinner...it is not
something I'd have with green eggs and ham...I would not have 3 parts dry
vermouth and 1 part Drambuie, Louie...

Definitely not in the Rob Roy/Manhatten style of drinks.

Yeah, it's more in the style of Scotch and root beer...over crushed ice...

It was good.

A great example of why there is chocolate and um....
....tuna-salad-sandwich-with-Brussels sprouts-and-peanut-butter...

Had a good taste and I doubt you could even get a buzz on with two or three of

I wouldn't get a buzz from 1253 of them, all triples poured extra-heavy, because
they would all remain in the glass...

I thought you'd prefer neat lemon juice :-)

Funny.

I was at a dinner party last night honoring Joanne in her retirement. A
dear old friend sat next to me and was drinking what she called a Rusty
Dog. It had three parts dry Vermouth and one part Drambui, on the
rocks. It was very good. The Vermouth cut the overly sweet Drambui
and made it a very nice sipping drink.

How about a report on your return to golf, and how is Joanne getting on
with her angling? E-mail will be fine.

See your mail.

Apparently, the Mass. governor wanted him to serve Sam Adams,

No wonder Fortenberry likes the guy so much.

Doesn't anyone drink American beer anymore?

I do. Currently residing in my fridge:
Anchor Steam
Harpoon IPA
Brooklyn Brown Ale
Dog Fish Head Shelter Pale Ale
Yuengling Black & Tan
Yuengling Lager.

I'm partial to Sweetgrass IPA from Grand Teton Brewing Co.

Bell's Two Hearted Ale is good. An IPA from Mich.

My wife was *impressed* when she picked me up in the parking lot and I
had a
handcart loaded up... ;)

Thats my kind of beer shopping.
By the way, got a new place that just opened near here, Lucky Bucket
Brewery. Really good stuff. They call it "pre-prohibition" beer.
Frank

Toasted a Summer Honey and Trout Slayer or three in your direction this
weekend Frank.

Be well,
JT
