Good onya mate!!! (spelt correctly).
Wishing you many happy hours getting to know your new toy. Imagine all the flies you can dry on that last hat. Ummmm, might be best if you leave the magnifiers at home and get a pair of glasses to use with the new rod. Don't the Hungarians (Magyar folk wear Shackos )sp?) That is the "national" dress, so yes. The word shacko comes from the Magyar word csako which is a peaked cap. There are differing local outfits. I think the fez came from the southern area of Hungary (or at least it was worn there). Frank Reid |

Lots of Hungarians in Central Jersey growing up, including my half brother. Common store sign= "Magyar Bolt" (?), but we still said Mr. Nag-eee, instead of Najaas, for Nagy. They brought in Hungarians as strike breakers at the J&J factories, so after the '56 revolution failed, many refugees came to that part of Jersey. The Hungarian ladies would literally scrub the sidewalks in front of their houses. Dave Enough old man talk for the day. |

Awesome language. There is a bar contest to see who can cuss the
longest without repeating themselves. Some have gone for over a half an hour. Spent a week of language school (6 hours in class a day and 6 hours of homework a night) just on cussing. A lot of English root words from Hunky... shako, coach, ogre... and the Hungarians were making fine wines while the French were still throwing sticks at each other. Kinda fun. Frank Reid |

Jon. The Monks are fellow Bainbridge islanders, and the familiy are multi generation naval architects. The current Edwin's father's designs for sailboats are Northwest classics. Monk designed sailboats are treasured. The Monks, and Nickham & Spaulding are part of a long sea going tradition in the Pacific NW The last wooden sailing merchant ships were built here on the Island when most of the Western world had already turned to steel. Our wood, old growth douglas fir and alaskan Wellow cedar, was/is perfect for wooden boats and ships. A neighbor, now deceased, worked as a hole driller for Hall Bros, he said. The last wooden sailing ship out of Eagle Harbor was in '36 or '38, and 13 boys dropped out of school, sewed sea bags joined as crew and took a load of timber out to Austrailia I think, or maybe it was hawaii.
