Um, wasn't she a little old to be sitting on her dad's lap...?

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com...in-copenhagen/

Shades of Hillary ("I was named after Sir Edmund") Clinton...now, if she had
said she remembered sitting on her dad's lap watching George Poage win _his_
medals, it might have been different...well, even funnier, anyway...next stop,
Liverpool, where she announces that she was especially close to the Beatles -
she was even named after the song "Michelle My Belle"....

Sheesh,

....and apparently, she didn't steal it all that much...and her husband didn't do
much better - what, 15 minutes after he lands, the IOC thumbs their nose at
Chigago...

come on, let's view this rationally. You get to spend 10 days watching
a fine sporting event in one
of two locales:
Choice One--Rio, with occaisional breaks, lying on the beach and
enjoying the, um, scenery.

Choice Two--Chicago.

I don't care if Barack, Michelle, Oprah, and all the Beatles, living
and deceased, made the pitch.
You would have to be insane to choose Chicago.

Yeah, like Bill Bennett said on one of the cable talking head shows:

"I'm actually for Rio. In Rio, it's beautiful women at the beach,
and in Chicago, it's fat people eating."

What he said.

cool. Google will work as a cheap substitute, now that Verizon is
kaput for Usenet groups. I created that goofy nom de plume from
some foolishness in the past, no doubt involving Connor. BTW, it is
such a hoot to watch Mike Shaw parade through a
Mennonite food store wearing Wayno's "who the Hell are you calling

to Penn's. BTW, Leadwing Coachman wets worked around Coburn. Looking
forward to the end of this month....big streamers for

If all I had to access Usenet was Google Groups I'd quit accessing
Usenet. When Ameritech pulled the plug on Usenet I signed on to the
free nntp server news.eternal-september.org. Works fine for me, I
have my Thunderbird newsreader and my killfiles and it's free.

The truth. Ya ever been to Rio? We have. Beautiful city with
beautiful beaches and people.

Chicago? Come on! What the hell does Chicago have except corrupt
politicians. IF Chicago got it, I'm willing to bet that the ChiTown
Grubbies would have their fingers in the till, and the games would go
down with billions of dollars lost.

Oh, hell, if it were a choice between Chicago and Apalachicola, FL., Chicago
would be SOL, overall atmosphere-wise...but that still leaves a 20-something

In answer to a reasonable approximation of word salad parsed thru a de-
mixing algorithm, . . .
1. Euro polit referencia = a necessary relation of contemporary right-
wing themes and actions, TO the analogues of same in the Central
European cluster-**** that scarred the last Century. This cynical
"destroy America to save her" theme in the current Tory party's base
is exactly the same mistake the German Democratic Right made in the
1930s. You shouldna cut class that day.

2. Your fixation with Michell Obama, while no way as excessive as Bean
counter's various afflictions, has a curious "notes on the slave
quarter" whiff to it. And I don't think intend it but one could also
interpret some of it as racist.

3. Just to be clear, I do not see you as a fascist or a Nazi. Re-read
it. I do see you as one of those who coddle fascist ideas and
incompetents.

You're welcome.

now, what were we discussing here?

The whole silliness surrounding the Olympics. If he had been the President he
claimed, he would have been "transparent" about it all - "Our odds of getting
them for Chicago aren't great, but other leaders are stumping, it has helped in
the past, and so, I'm gonna at least try...plus, I can actually run a few minor
errands while I'm over there..." instead of "We just suddenly realized in the
last few days that I desperately needed to go to Copenhagen...and the fact that
they just happen to be deciding whether Chicago is worthy of the games has
nothing to do with it..." Add that to Michelle's Hillary-esque performance on
"the world stage." Will the fact that Chicago didn't get the Olympics, in and
of itself, define his presidency? Of course not. Is it, in and of itself, even
a major issue? No. Is it just one more example of how he isn't the guy he
claimed, was portrayed to be, and promised to be? Yes.

R

You're welcome.

now, what were we discussing here?

The whole silliness surrounding the Olympics. *If he had been the President he
claimed, he would have been "transparent" about it all - "Our odds of getting
them for Chicago aren't great, but other leaders are stumping, it has helped in
the past, and so, I'm gonna at least try...plus, I can actually run a few minor
errands while I'm over there..." instead of "We just suddenly realized in the
last few days that I desperately needed to go to Copenhagen...and the fact that
they just happen to be deciding whether Chicago is worthy of the games has
nothing to do with it..." *Add that to Michelle's Hillary-esque performance on
"the world stage." *Will the fact that Chicago didn't get the Olympics, in and
of itself, define his presidency? *Of course not. *Is it, in and of itself, even
a major issue? *No. *Is it just one more example of how he isn't the guy he
claimed, was portrayed to be, and promised to be? *Yes. *

Look at the deficit this YEAR - he's increased it more than 50% - he

Done any fishing lately? How about a trip report or something on

Um, Krugman won for _economics_ (and specifically, for "macroeconomics" -
certain work on international trade theory vis-a-vis economies of scale, etc.).
While he is certainly entitled to his political opinions, he was not recognized
for anything to do with politics, nor is his academic background in political
science or politics and his admitted liberal bias is, well, bias. That said, his
(or anyone else's) assessment of the reaction of a small fraction of what he
labels the GOP/Republicans to Obama's mistakes (or alleged mistakes) is not
material to the mistakes themselves, nor does it negate them. If anything, it
acknowledges them.

And I'll point out how humorous it is for you self-proclaimed lefties to be
whining about "the politics of spite" given the actions of many on the left with
regard to Reagan, Bush 1 and esp. Bush 2, etc. The sad thing is that - as Mike
Murphy and David Brooks pointed out the weekend - much of BOTH ends of the
spectrum is nothing but noise from the fringe, and Krugman is sinking more and
more into the fringe (not that he was ever very objective politically).

I don't recall anyone from the "left" questioning Reagan's birth
certificate. The level of racist hatred and wingnut outrage towards
Obama far exceeds anything the "left" displayed towards any of the
recent GOP presidents. In fact, as Krugman pointed out, the last
time we've seen similar obscene displays of purely partisan outrage
they were directed at Bill and Hillary.
