Rockies, and North. Your post should flush em out. Dave |

There didn't seem to be much interest in the hike in. Last I heard Jaarmo wanted to rent an RV and move around rather than spend much time in any one spot. At any rate the cost is $125 a head for a drop camp. -- Ken Fortenberry |

JR What's the latest on showing our Scandahoovian friends the Big Sky? Sorry for not replying earlier, but a few RL issues intervened (swine flu, kitchen renovation). As a group of travelling fishermen we are on hold, waiting for a confirmation on whether or not my friend is able to fertilize his wife before February. I think that my friends will succeed in his endeavour - given his proven track record - which means that the potential Finnish party would shrink to size 1. Therefore I have decided to decide ASAP whether I will come there on my own (with our Swedish neighbours, of course). I had actually decided to make this decision a few weeks ago, but like I wrote above, natural forces swung me around for a while. The decision to go solo frees me from the earlier time constraints: I am able to take the trip any time between, say, 30.6.-5.8. This also rules out the RV option, unless the Swedes would like to take part in renting a motorhome. In any case I *will* make a long road trip next summer. If I am going on my own, the competing options are 1. the Western clave 2. northern Sweden / Norway, with focus on I. small streams and II. sea trout 3. SE British Columbia / Alberta Option #2 has been on my mind for a long time. I must also say that I have read and *very* positive things about option #3. I will post my final decision on this by 20.12. If you are going to have the clave anyway, my decision deadline will not slow you down: since my timetable is flexible, you can just decide on the dates and the location, and by 20.12. I will tell you whether or not I will join. Now it is time to do some serious Christmas shopping. -- Jarmo Hurri Remove all garbage from header email address when replying, or just use . |

Well, o.k., I confess that I too live somewhere or other and wouldn't mind too much being forced to fish with someone or other in some place or other at one time or another if I wasn't doing something or other at that or another time in that or some other place, with or without someone else or other.....or not. giles who is looking forward to it with something or other approaching much less than absolute loathing......or maybe not. |

doubt there is a formal gathering...stuff out west now seems more like a
pick-up basketball game. i'll be in montana july 9-18 (9.7. - 18.7. g), staying in cabin 3 at the slide inn, which is west of hebgen and quake lakes, on the madison...about 30 miles west of west yellowstone, near raynolds bridge. if you find yourself in the area, stop in. jeff Jarmo Hurri wrote: JR What's the latest on showing our Scandahoovian friends the Big Sky? Yesterday I watched a BBC documentary about Yellowstone. It was part 1/3 and only considered wintertime, but it still reminded me that the park and its wildlife are astonishing. With images of the area fresh in mind I am sad to say that at this point I will *not* commit to "Western clave 2010." While the situation might change later - if we as a group decide to fish some remote place together - I doubt that it will happen. Assuming that I will take this road trip on my own, I have decided to maximize fishing time, limit costs and stay in a relatively familiar and safe area. In practice this means flying to Sweden, renting a car for a couple of weeks, fishing for grayling, trout and charr in northern Sweden and Norway, and sleeping in my comfortable tent. Thanks to all who tried to make the trip happen. The good news is that with next summer's trip cancelled, the guys are still saving money every month for "the big trip". Maybe it will take place in 2011. Merry Christmas and a Fishy (?) New Year! -- Jarmo Hurri Remove all garbage from header email address when replying, or just use . |

If I had to fly to Sweden, rent a car for a couple of weeks, fish for grayling, trout and charr in northern Sweden and Norway, and then be forced to sleep in a comfortable tent, I'd be absolutely devastated! VBSEG :~^ ) I can only dream of your "in practice" situation. I hope ya have a great time, when ya get to go of course. Take and post lots-o-pictures for the rest of us financially challenged folk--we must live our lives vicariously thru the experiences that folk like yourself live! Best to ya, Op |

Mark That's really gotta suck big-time Jarmo! VBSEG :~^ ) :) Agreed, it does not look too bad. And with the rest of the group back at home, more opportunities to mull over midlife crisis issues. And yes, after the trip I will post a TR with lots of pictures. -- Jarmo Hurri Remove all garbage from header email address when replying, or just use . |
