4 Corners fishing
Jerry posing as "Debbie Brandenburg" wrote in message Plan on a 4 Corners trip week of 3/29/04. Any info on how Delores fishes that time of year appreciated. I'm awaiting a geography lesson on this one, 'cause I thought the four corners area was in the middle of a friggin desert. And, sadly, I just can't hear the name Delores without thinking of that Seinfeld episode. Joe F. |

I spent some time in Chalma New Mexico with a Great Aunt in 1942. The roads were dirt in those days and Chalma was a quaint little mining town with board sidewalks. It's not far to the Four Corners from there. She had an old Model T Ford my cousin and another boy got running and we drove it all over the mountains. What an adventure for the three of us, none of us had drivers licenses, or fishing licenses. Those were the days my friends. :) Ernie |

The four corners area is a VERY cool place with lots of history. There's still some of the old magic lingering around. I agree. I haven't been there in a while, but I'm seriously considering going through the area either on the way to or from the western clave this year. -- Charlie... |

"Charlie Choc" I agree. I haven't been there in a while, but I'm seriously considering going through the area either on the way to or from the western clave this year. -- Either way you better look me up. We'll hit the Animas and the San Juan at the minimum. bruce h |

considering going through the area either on the way to or from the western clave this year. -- Once when I must have been about 8 years old my parents took us on the narrow gage railroad trip from Durango to silverton and about half way thru the trip the train stopped to let a fisherman off. They said they would pick him up on the way back to Durango on the next day's trip. I thought HOW COOL and have always wordered about doing a trip like that. does anyone know someone who has done that, I still think about that once in a while. Big Dale |

"Big Dale" wrote (snip) Here's what it says in "Fly Fishing Southern Colorado" by Craig Martin, Tom Knopick, and John Flick: "For a special adventure, consider taking the steam train of the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad from Durango to Needleton. After a two hour ride, hop off and fish for a couple of hours, then catch the train on the way back from Silverton. Such an excursion requires advance planning and reservations" (p. 128) I've always thought it sounded really fun also. The authors of the book do say that the fishing isn't really all that good that far upstream on the Animas. At some point I should at least ride the train, but doubt if I ever will because it's so close to the San Juan and the great parts of the Animas. bruce h |
