So, you're saying that the gods are NOT responsible for me accidently putting cocktail sauce on my tamales instead of salsa. Depends on whether we're talking about any one or more of them being charged with the responsibility of seeing to it that you accidentally put cocktail sauce on your tamales instead of salsa or, instead, about whether any one or more of them can be held accountable for having made you do it. If the former, it's irrelevant because you just can't make 'em live up to the terms of their contracts. If the latter, it's irrelevant because culpability carries no enforceable consequences. There had to be some godly role in making both the salsa and cocktail sauce containers identical. Probably. But in all likelihood it wasn't intentional. Hell, they can't tell sherry from amontillado. This is what comes of living on burnt offerings, chicken guts, incense, infants, etc. Odds are they just slather on heaps of whatever they can find to drown out the flavor of the main course and never stop to look at the label. I know they're busy and all that, but these were good tamales. I feel your pain, man. A tamale is a terrible thing to waste. But they're immune to prosecution. One of them has to have the job of looking out for good food and taking care of it so the waiter doesn't spill it or the top doesn't come off the salt shaker. Of course, but which one? And what do you do when you find out? Call him/her/it on the phone? All you get is some incomprehensible tech in Sri Lanka or Pakistan (that is, in the unlikely event that you actually do eventually get through to something bearing a reasonable resemblence to a human being) who will, in the fulness of time, direct you through a series of gyrations that will inevitably trash your entire pantry.....and melt down your motherboard as well. Aside from "being," they do have jobs, right? No one has yet demonstrated that there's any good reason to be sure about that. I may be evil incarnate, but I'm no welcher. The way you put it, making a deal with me leaves folks desperate and impoverished. Sure, in the afterlife, but when I strike bargains with people, they first get something here on earth -- glamour, beauty, talent, wealth, fame, glory, a golden fiddle. Those Haitians have nothing, and I mean nothing. And that was before the earthquake. Haven't you seen "Crossroads"? Or "Damn Yankees"? If I had a thing going with Haiti, there'd be lots of banks, skyscrapers, SUVs, exclusive night clubs, Botox -- that kind of thing. An 80 percent poverty rate is so not my style. Nothing against it -- I'm just saying: Not how I roll. You're doing great work, Pat, and I don't want to clip your wings -- just, come on, you're making me look bad. And not the good kind of bad. Keep blaming God. That's working. But leave me out of it, please. Or we may need to renegotiate your own contract. And you make God look like a big mean bully who kicks people when they are down, so I'm all over that action. But when you say that Haiti has made a pact with me, it is totally humiliating. Best, Satan - JR JR, I am lifting your letter from Satan to Pat for my Pat Robertson is a psychopath Facebook page--I hope you don't mind, much. Op, It's Lily Coyne's letter from the Minneapolis paper. Just put a link, maybe: http://www.startribune.com/opinion/l.../81595442.html |

I can't think of anything I like about the Rev., except maybe the fact that he's likely to die before most of the rest of the current human population of the planet. He is repulsive in so many ways and to such a degree that one could wax tiresome in enumerating and quantifying all of them. But, stupid? The evidence is equivocal at best. cheers prosit! oz, the only atheist in demand at local Baptist church singing nights Last I heard, there's Baptists and singing atheists pretty much all over the world. You queried all of them? What a ma.......well, you know. g. |
