one inch....even at very low volume....any ideas?

if it is JUST that one CD, I would simply suggest avoiding it. Otherwise, a
subsonic filter, if your preamp has one, will address the issue if it
happens regularly. Odd that it is a CD, as I've heard that issue from LP
play more often, and that issue can be frequently traced to one of a few
factors, such as tonearm resonances, surface resonances from below the
table, or improper cartridge setup.

I love listening to new music and I am constantly doing so.

I thank the person that made the post about Jesse Winchester
I have not hear him in years
So
I immediately went to the Zune marketplace and downloaded some of his music
Yrs ago I had his first album just called Jesse Wincherster released in
1970 and its still a good album.

Most of my downlaods are Celtic (Irish) and Scottish and Newfoundland music
- mainly fiddle and accordian\
I rarely go anywhere w/o my mp3 player

is for mp3 type players? I need a place I can burn to CD and play on my

Zune costs $15 or $16 mo
Unlimited downlaods.
I listen to some pretty esoteric music and Zune does not have all - say 60%
..
But that's OK becuae if I have to and its not on Zune I go to the Amazon
marketplace or the artist's own page and either buy a CD or download it
form Amazon prices are say $10 mp3 vs $15 for the CD

If I download any music I don't like
It costs me nothing so it just gets deleted

I have more music to listen to now than I will ever get the chance to listen
to in my lifetime My 120G player is filled and
There area few sources for digging out some newer but "different" music
so I am always adding
I rotate songs-

I wet to Zune from Rhapsody and other music services as it was the easiest
to synch properly w my mp3 player
I move my player between 3 stereo systems in the house , all of our
computer(s) - also used in the cars
and at various times w just headphones
The quality is the best I have ever heard esp w Shure headphones

If you have an ipod you may have more of a choice

The CD in question is Bob Martins' Midwest Farm Disaster..gosh..it's more
than 30 years ago it came out on vinyl and is only recently became available
on disc...Not the beauty of voice like Jesse has but at the time he made the
album all things clicked. It has such classics as Old Rass (the horse that
takes grandpa home when the old man's gone drunk blind) and Frog Dick south
Dakota (toilet seat capital of the world)....and Blind Marie.

I just pulled up Jesse on you tube..I had never heard of him and I will have
to pick up some of his stuff...care to recommend any CD's in particular?

thanks for the heads up...I'm getting to the age where new music is the only

he's new to me john, so can't give any good idea of what to get. from
what i have heard, i doubt there is a bad cd. the last one is getting
good reviews. he's an old guy, called one of the best of the "unknown"
singer-songwriters.

i saw him on elvis costello's show. has some remarkable lyrics in his
songwriting and a very pleasing voice. thought you might like him
because you enjoy the poetry of some music, and he's from the
louisiana-mississipi area originally... speaking of which, where's
aruhdean??

I never experienced that problem when I was spinning vinyl...and yeah....it
is just that one particular CD. It's weird as heck. I have a call in for
the original and for a copy to be made on another system to do some
caparison tests...

Now....in case anyone is curious....do I copy CD's? yes. once.
We go halfsies and the winner of the coin toss gets to keep the original
jacket....do I boot leg or buy such? no...

I will let you know the results of my tests and I will take a drive Monday
to go and talk to the most knowledgeable people I know at Parts Express...

they are Arum Cantus speakers, Adcom amp and pre amp....a small not so
powerful system but ideally suited for my listening environment.....

no way should the displacement be that great on those woofers......even 3/4
inch would scare me on my Klipschs, and they have 12 in woofers....At any
rate, the Adcom should have some sort of a bass filter to moderate very low
bass, but it is odd that only the one CD copy gives you an issue. Good luck
on your quest, John.

Jesse is an old favorite of mine. While I normally don't recommend
"best of" CD's, in his case the best of released in 1989 is a really
good look at the man's body of work.

Beyond his music, his life is interesting. One of the reasons he's
"unknown" is because he fled to Canuckistan when he was drafted, so he
was unable to tour in the U.S. until later in his career.
