Really?!?

That sure looks like a big brownie to me. And last I checked, the
Atlantic Ocean was pretty damn far from Tasmania!!

Atlantic Salmon are intensively farmed in Tasmania (some escape) and
brood stock are sometimes deliberately released for anglers. They
don't naturally reproduce in the wild AFAIK.

Whoever put together the web site probably wasn't an angler and got
the photos mixed up.

It's a brown. Tail isn't forked, mouth is too big, and spot pattern is
wrong for a salmon.

Hm.....

So.....um......it is your opinion (as an African American flyfisher of
renown) that either way this is no native fish.....ainna?

You're spot on. I found an older version of that website, and the
picture DID show a landlocked AS, and another cation for the picture
shown, referencing a 'big brownie'. Someone ought to get on the
current version, though.

Looking at an Oz trip in late June. Unfortunately, the stream season
is closed, but I can do some sal****er casting. More to come.

Defintely Salm Trutta NOT Salar.

The maxilliary bone does not extend behind the eye in salmo salar but it
does in salmo trutta. As I can see it, the picture shows the maxilliay bone
extending behind the fish's eye there fore a trout.
