Okay, one Republican comment I can ignore, but youze guys are way out of line. I would venture to say that 99.something percent of Rs think the goings on in the prison(s) were atrocities and should be fully investigated to get to the parties responsible. The fact that there are a few loud idiots out there representing the other .something percent doesn't make the majority a bunch of mental midgets. That goes for the fringe on either side of the issue. What would be in it for the media if they were to print headlines like "Most People on Both Sides Agree". How bland is that?! What I fear is that these sensational headlines are what's being published abroad for people like our friend Lazarus to judge the American public, and I don't think they paint a fair picture. I know he said the comment came from a cousin, but her take may be tainted as well, maybe by talk shows like Rush who thrive on controversy. I'm not hearing that sentiment from the media. I'm hearing it from the plumber who fixed my mother-in-law's kitchen faucet the other day, the roofers who are putting on a roof next door, the guy who mows the lawn at my mother-in-law's condo and the guys sitting on the bar stool next to me when I have a beer while waiting on a couple of fish sandwiches at the American Legion on Friday evenings. You know, working class guys. Limbaugh is not what I call "news media", he's entertainment, but go back and read some of Cal Thomas' recent columns, if you can stomach it, to get an idea of what's passing for "mainstream conservative" thought on this issue. -- Ken Fortenberry |

There's nothing unfair about the real ones. That's grand, and I agree. It was right to publish the pictures from the prison. For god's sake, if any country stands for publishing the truth, no mattter how unpleasant, it should be the uS. If we can't do that, we're no good for anything at all. for the English pictures, I think the editor had to make a decsion, and made one on good faith. As I understand it, the fact is that the Brits *have* been mistreating prisoners, but the pictures may have been faked. At least he had the bottle to go ahead and publish something he felt was in the public interest even though it would embarrass his government. My understanding is that CBS waited a long, long time before publishing, and nearly caved in to pressure. To be honest, Republican or Democrat should not come into this. I would hate to think that "Republican" means "concealing the truth if it's inconvenient for the current Republican President" Well, I placed my sorry ass right in the middle of another one of these no-win political debacles on a fly fishing forum where I get to say, EOT for me.
