Someday I hope to get around to taking some pictures like that, of local insects. Always amazes me when looking at such pictures, that the flies tied to imitate such creatures are so dissimilar to the originals, and yet still effective. TL MC |

I agree. Always amazes me when looking at such pictures, that the flies tied to imitate such creatures are so dissimilar to the originals, and yet still effective. Just because something looks similar to our eyes, doesn't mean it looks similar to a fish's. When we try to use our eyes and our brain to decide how another species is going to perceive things, lots of erroneous stuff is going to crop up. Willi |

SNIP Here ya go Mike, but I honestly doubt that many of these would fish very well G http://www.danica.com/flytier/pwhillock/pwhillock.htm Yeah, I have seen quite a few realsitic flies. These are very good inded. Never done any good with them myself, and they also take too long to tie, although "construct" would be perhaps a better description. I prefer generic impressionistic flies for fishing. TL MC |

A tip: One thing I found when taking pics of insects (and the taker if these shots confirms it) ... generally they don't like the cold: if they won't hold still chill the buggers. Could mean turning the spotlights off, or a few minutes in the fridge. Of course, in the GOD that can be a little tricky. Steve |

Still you never know, we're coming into another caddis period, and I'm heading off for a few days with both photo and fishing tackle. Steve (7 sleeps ....) |
