Leaving tomorrow for WC. Last call for orders for good food
transportation--anyone need grits- chittlings - or cracklens ? Warren - where do Jeff and I fish Wed afternoon [3 to 6]? can you join us on way home from work somewhere on Gallatin near to Bozeman airport? Danial-please bring nippers strong enough to cut hooks out of body parts. Wonder if charlie chocks wife is tired of eating in the same diner three times a day for four days while they await delivery of a trailer axel from Africa. With only one eating place in town I bet she is tired of chicken fried steak and bet she does not accompany Mr. chock on another western adventure!!! Is madison warm enough for wet wading??? Are there any flathead indians around?? Would like to know where they learned to let their squaws ride side saddle? { As seen in one of Beirstadt's western art works.} As a point of interest--the female flatheads birthed their young ones while squatting. Jeff-i will be a Day's Inn by Raleigh airport Tues evening if you need me. This old indian is PUMPED IJ |

Unless you're real tough, I don't think the air temps and water temps of the Madison would be conducive to wet wading. Some of the smaller waters will probably be OK. IJ answers with relief--if i did not believe you i would not be planning to attend. Hell it was 103* in camp ground, 107* in Massoula downtown when i picked up jeff, and at least 122* on that damm float trip. Only time my toenails got sunburned. Please bring a couple extra of your little indicator thingees. I forgot how the rubber band works but if i have to fish in the rain will probably be going subsurface. |

The the early traders adopted the local Indian classification, which considered the prevailing compressed skull of the neighboring tribes as pointed and the naturally shaped Salish skull by contrast as flat. http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/06097a.htm If we seen any indians in a bar I will get Jeff to ask them-"-How did you get so flatheaded?" Yeah, I can direct you to several spots and meet up with you. I'll drop you an email with directions, etc. Is madison warm enough for wet wading??? I don't think so, but you may be able to do it. I am a wuss when it comes to wet wading..... This old indian is PUMPED Glad to hear it. It is hard to believe that we are just a few days out from the conclave. I still feel like it is weeks off and need to get cracking on sending out an update from this past weekend. Will send in the next couple of hours with a link to the pics. -- Warren (use troutbum_mt on earthNOSPAMlink dot net to respond via email) Clave Info: http://www.geocities.com/troutbum_mt...nConclave.html |

Unless you're real tough, I don't think the air temps and water temps of the Madison would be conducive to wet wading. Some of the smaller waters will probably be OK. The smaller waters may even be colder. The snow packs are dwindling, but the Madison, Upper Yellowstone and Gallatin drainages still have snow melting off. The smaller cricks may be a bit chilly still. BTW, good advice on rain gear and warm clothing. The daytime temps are in the upper 70s to low 80s, but it drops to the upper 40s or low to mid 50s at night. I spoke with Kelly at the Slide Inn over the weekend and was in the shop when Harry Mason called to confirm his reservations, etc. Kelly called Harry a Slide Inn "lifer" BTW. Anyway, Kelly said they have had 41 consecutive days of moisture as of Saturday. I am sure it is now 43 because we got hit pretty hard last night and this morning here in Bozeman. The middle of the day is nice and sunny, but thunderstorms roll through damn near every afternoon here. Apparently the Madison Valley has been seeing quite a bit of rain. I'll explain more via email in an hour or two. -- Warren (use troutbum_mt on earthNOSPAMlink dot net to respond via email) Clave Info: http://www.geocities.com/troutbum_mt...nConclave.html |

The boys loved the ocean and the pool to escape from the heat. Nice weather for the most part too. The sun was a bit strong from this old Northern Boy, the skin got a bit toasty. We made a lame attempt at going out on a charter ended up on a headboat. Got some flounder, but after the rest of the family saw the Yellowtails on the docks when we came back to Oregon Inlet, that wished they had listened to me and shelled over a few more bucks. One of the guides had 17 of them, all nice sized. Sorry we couldn't cross paths myself, you offered, I just couldn't make it, the schedule got full quickly and I still feel like we hardly did anything. Finishing the pack tonight. Mike |
